I'm considered a old timer by most of you kids. The new games look so good but are so @*%^ complicated and complex . I am looking for something simple to play easy to learn and will reward you for getting better as you play. The last game I played like that was called Silent Death Online. Since then the only thing to come close was Subspace but it was pointless, it has no goals just shoot and die and do it over and over and over

so tell me, what is the best, simplest and most addictive you have played?

Yeah but those games don't 'reward' you for getting better except with harder levels 🙂

There is plenty of games out there that have progressive storylines and as you get better you advance the story and unlock more equipment options for yourself. Good basic example is Freelancer, not sure if you are wanting MMO based examples but EVE Online is a good example of progression over time.

I wouldn't call those two simple though

What about I-War 2?

If you have a joystick to go with it, it's pretty simple. The entire game can be played with it.

3030 Deathwar a good little 2d clone of Elite with a lot of atmosphere, you can find it in the download section of the forum.

Well, I wouldn't call I-War 2 simple, because it breaks most of what people know as a given:

* inertial controls instead of arcade controls

* LDAs vs shield sectors

* Player ship not overpowered vs AI ships

* Complex energy management vs simple / no management

* Useless briefings and unpredictable missions vs clear cut action

And yes, you guessed it, IWar is on the left side 😛

I think Captain Forever might be something u like. It takes the basics from Asteroids and throws some awesomesause over it, making it a fun and addictive game to play during those office hours you're to bored to do actual work...

find it here:

Well I thought I-War 2 was simple. I haven't really seen any others I could get: most are either in production, considered collector's items or too unheard of to buy from Amazon or eBay.

On another note, Captain Forever is addictive.

I thought Iwar was a convoluted mess. Opinions vary I suppose.

For AWESOME simplicity you CANNOT beat Elite. Or, its remake, Oolite.
