Holy crap- I just bought Dangerous off of the App Store for my iPod Touch 3G, and it's now easily the best game on my iTouch. It has been awhile since a game with such depth and complexity has arrived on the iPhone/iPod... but there is a bit of a gamebreaking problem...
The HUD kills. When flying in a high traffic zone, around stations and such, the target select list goes WAAAAAAAY off screen. It only shows the first four or five, which isn't game breaking in itself, it's just a pain if a pirate warps in, making it a guessing game to target it. A lot of other stuff is cut off too- some of the story dialogue gets cut off (not that much of a problem), in the shipyard the stats are completely cut off, there doesn't appear to be any way to exit the options menu, and a few other bits and pieces.
Other than those few things, I congratulate you swiftest on creating the best space open world sim on the iOS market. I'd like to see some more unique models for some of the ships rather than the generic ones that seem to be in a lot of games these days, any chance that would be coming in later updates?
I can only speak from PC and netbook here, but on both there should be a dismiss button at the top right of the menu (the one that says warp and everything else on it), there's a back or dismiss button on the actual options menu for me.
I've only found one game breaking bug for me (a record0 in that docking will sometimes be glitched out, it'll launch me straight back into space instead of showing the docking screen, on one save it does that often but not on another.
the HUD is kind of like the X series, one thing I'd like s scrollable target lists, I tend to look for a red ship icon to know who to target,I just spam F then R and open up with weapons
Glad you're enjoying it TechnicalBYTE! We are working on fixing the HUD for small screens for the 1.0.4 update. In particular, we're going to prioritize enemies, wingmen, allies, and then neutrals for the contacts list. After the usability and fixes, we hope to start on the ship boarding feature.
Celticfang, I sent Andrew, the lead dev, your bug report about the docking problem.
Pinback, we have the 1.0.3 version released for Mac/PC, but need to send out emails to existing players. If we don't get the email system updated soon, I'll try send you a direct link.
For everybody, feel free to email bug reports and ideas to support@binaryhelix.com.
Ship boarding...? /want...
I love the fact it runs on my netbook, pulled an all nighter doing missions, but...I think I'm stuck, at the start I got told about a spy which I found, I did that, now I got to assemble a team, but...no clue where to start, am I overthinking it by going straight to the obvious places, or do I have to do faction missions first/
Also, what faction gives the hades as a reward?
Did I read it right that for 1.0.4 you're making it so skills and cash alone determine what ships you can get?
Also, would you mind letting slip an explanation of what components do what, right now Ive no clue what a power core speed does versus the other one, or is that coming in a later update?
Boarding = win 😀 Does this mean we can capture ships then?
celticfang, I think I remember in the first or second system the story takes you to at the start, theres a capital ship station of factory, can't remember the name sorry, that sold a single Hades... that is, that's not a reward, so I hope it's still useful 😛 And I think in one of the systems Hub stations theres a pilot... I think... the system started with A... hrm... I'm a lot of help today... 😕
There's one at the Washbo hub and the capital ship station but I can't buy either, I seem to remember reading (thanks Alina...) that you need loyalty missions for the better licenses.
Started with A? That's only 5000 or so to search 😛 Come join in, we'll get it done quicker that way!
Capital ships license is given by SLV whose HQ can be found in Chiba.
Some of the more arcane modules and their functions:
sensor damp: reduce the lock range of an enemy
ECM: tries to break and prevent all locks by a single enemy (percentage based, helps if you have ECM skill and ECM ship bonus)
ECCM: makes it harder for ECM to work on your ship
remote armor repair: repairs a target ship's armor, useful for breakdown an escort quests, Cali has this skill
remote shield recharge: recharges a shield remotely, useful for escort quests, Grace has this skill
energy vampire: drains a small amount of energy from an enemy ship and gives it to your powercore
energy neutralizer: eliminates a larger amount of energy from an enemy ship, useful to stop energy hungry modules from operating on an enemy
energy transferer: gives a remote ship some energy for its powercore
webber: slows down an enemy ship and also prevents docking by interfering with the station's tractor beam
warp jammer: prevents an enemy from warping away
warp stabilizer: increases warp strength and prevents being warp jammed
powercore plus: increases the size of your powercore (which also increases the rate of recharge indirectly)
powercore speed: increases the rate of recharge for the powercore
shield layering: increases amount of shield (also increases shield recharge rate indirectly)
shield energizer: increases amount of shield recharged per cycle

Cheers swiftest got the link today and downloaded the new version. 😀
Haven't had a chance to play it, just a quick look at the start, like the way you have incorporated the new player starts into the game even works with my old save game. 😎
Hmm... well, according to the Wings section in your quarters when you dock, there's a pilot named Akia. I think it also says to contact Waaxan Hub Station in the Aelle system. Then again, my iPod's resolution is crap, so I can't read it overly well 😛 and that's also assuming the iOS version is the same as the PC version. I really need to get a new iPod/iPhone... 😛
I'm curious swiftest, the AI seems to always use the same sets of ships- are they capable of buying new ships, or do they stick to the same one? Do some only get seen in later systems? And do pirates re spawn, because this universe could get mighty lonely if they don't... 😀
I'm headed there currently, can't sleep so I fire up Dangerous....works for me
Hmm, I'm wondering the same on the ships as you though, I've seen pirate ships reappearing, makes it great when they warp in and attack as I'm docking

That's Akio, and you can find him at Waaxan Hub Station in System Aelle as you stated. He's a very useful wingman to get, so skill up a little and try to grab him because he'll make life much easier. Also, all platforms play the same way from the iPhone 3GS to the PC/Mac version. The platforms with a bigger screen and horsepower have some additional enhancements with the ability to render graphics on the "beautiful" setting and PC/Mac versions also have a high polygon count station.
The ships will change and run the entire gamut as you descend to the low- and null-security systems. You'll encounter larger and more varied enemies who'll throw everything from ECM, sensor damp, energy neuts, webbers, warp jammers, and more at you. 🙂
Pirates definitely respawn. Some will warp in, and others will already be at the location you're warping in to.
Wow either my frigate's seriously set up wrong or the hijacked ship missions are hard...
What system are you starting the hijacked mission? Do you have any wingmen? What extra modules or skills have you added? Where/at what point are you failing? Remember that you can't destroy the ship even if is attacking you, and you have to slow it down for the rescuers to arrive before it docks. In general, the difficulty is set by the security level you're in.
Tried one in Aelle with the starting frigate geared more toward shield recharge and weapons, i couldn't recharge the shields fast enough, I had on a laser and 4 light turrets, sold the missie launchers and got down to 580 seconds to go
I can do the other missions fine
I can do the other missions fine
That mission is harder because the pirates can bunch up if you don't kill them fast enough. It is doable in a frigate if you have the skills (increase your frigate skill to give a boost to resistance) and modules. Might want to consider a sensor damp to give yourself more time. Also, you're in Akio's system, you should do his quest to get him unless you like the extra challenge. You can order him to ignore or aid the hijacked ship, so he'll go after other enemies.
is there a defend me order or not?
There isn't one because all the enemies generally attack you first since you are the "prize" so to speak due to your reputation. If this wasn't the case, Akio wouldn't last very long in battle. (Over time, other wingmen can draw aggro if they attack/heal enough, but you don't generally have to worry about this.) Only Havok generates more hate right off the bat and can draw fire away from you. If you have one of the healer wingmen, they will repair whoever needs it the most.
Ahh, I got Akio by paying off the debt and went after Grace, I didn't last long at all, I'm loving the game so far, but not sure what the next ship I ought to get is, save up for a Tyr, or go for another frigate, my line of thinking is the frigate's not got the shielding, but it's got the speed that I can use.
EDIT: Ooh 1.0.4 is out, I[m hunting for a change log

Outside of core- or high-sec, I'd recommend a destroyer or tougher like a cruiser. Depends on your strategy though since speed tanking is sort of viable, too. We'll need to start adding change logs somewhere on the website if not in the download, but didn't include one with 1.0.4. One bug fix makes the hijacked missions a little easier to finish, and there are some visual fixes as well as a "smart" market filter which doesn't show you under or oversized modules or modules that your ship can't equip.
Is this version 1.0.4 coming to iOS soon too then- or do the PC and iOS version numbers differ? I'm also finding it difficult to choose where to go after the Agron, but that's mostly because I can't see the stats. 😆
Liking the sound of the market filter, it would make buying weapons/modules a hell of a lot easier! 😀 I just can't figure out where the trading/mining skills are- do you need to unlock them or something first, because there aren't any non-weapon/ship related skills on my skill page...

Version 1.0.3 is still awaiting review by Apple in the iOS app store. Most likely, iOS will skip 1.0.4 and get version 1.0.5 due to this delay. For 1.0.5, we're adding better control options for all platforms.
Mining and other skills are given out as corporation loyalty quests. Get your standings up to 0.49 with MNE or ORE to trigger the loyalty quest. One of them gives you the mining ship license and skill. The Master Trader skill is also given out by one of the transport corporations.
Ah I see, thanks for the info!
I got the turret destroyer and fitted it with 8 turrets, it may be overkill, but....no pirates have lived to tell about my ship
BYTE, the stats can be seen by hitting the ? icon by the ship's name
Yea, but on my iOS device the stats of a ship when viewing it in the market are squashed up and are completely cut off... 😕
Want me to type out the stats that you're after? Some of them don't make sense at all
