To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Drox Operative Overview

Drox Operative is a starship action RPG with warring alien races, fierce space battles, a dynamic, evolving galaxy, and co-op multiplayer for Windows and Mac.

Eons ago the Drox ruled the galaxy through their mighty Operatives. These elite starship captains were trained to accomplish the impossible at whatever cost necessary. Whether employing stealth or brute force, they were always deadly. Using these Operatives, the Drox built a starlane system for quick travel amongst the stars, colonized and conquered millions of planets, and ruled the galaxy with an iron grip for over 100,000 years. Eventually realizing their Operatives were a threat, they attempted to assassinate all of them. They failed. The following Galactic Civil War was devastating.

Thousands of years later, the Drox are extinct, but the secretive Drox Operative guild lives on. They have learned their lesson though: loyalty to any one race is foolish. They now work for whoever can pay. And pay they do! Empires might span hundreds of planets and thousands of ships, but when a critical task arises, they still turn to an Operative.

In the new space race, the major races are scouting, colonizing, and expanding, trying to take over the galaxy by diplomacy, technology, war, or any other means their scheming minds can contemplate.

As a Drox Operative it's NOT your job to manage all of those annoying people, build thousands of buildings, play nice with your enemies, or balance the budget. It IS your job to pick the winning side and maybe even help them conquer the galaxy if you're being nice, more importantly though is to rake in as many credits as possible, well that and build the coolest, deadliest ship in the known universe. Not many screw with an Operative captaining a Dreadnaught!

Drox Operative is scheduled to be released in the 1st quarter of 2012, however it will be released when it's done.

Will definitely have to keep an eye on this game. Love playing Din's Curse every now and again. A space based game from them will be interesting to see. I can't wait!

For those who don't know, Drox Operative is in CLOSED BETA, BUT you can buy your way in by pre-ordering the game. I don't have the cash, but I hear its coming along nicely. You can go to the beta forums and see what all the fuss is about. Its fast developing into a space roguelike esque game with 4x features.

I consider it worth the money, as Shadow (the dev) listens to player feed-back regularly, and all of his games are great. (Din's Curse, etc. etc.)

ALSO!

This is a SP overview, and THIS

is an MP overview.

YAY i like to see the almost emergent gameplay from dins curse in space

bounty on a lowly pirate captain - not enough to entice you or maybe other npc -

then that pirate captain gets a stronger powerbase - maybe gets even stronger killing the first bountyhunters - and then rampaging with his fleet through your home system <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_biggrin.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

I like that - a lot !

Two words can describe this game: squandered potential.

The gameplay is solid; you could even say it's pretty good. Unfortunately, the content is basically the same thing repeated infinitely to the point of making the game extremely monotonous. You are doing the same thing at level 10 as you are at level 60 (around where I stopped playing) and there's very little variation in missions (which are called "quests" which is irksome, but whatever). This isn't too much different from other dungeon crawl / hack and slash type games but Drox doesn't have a story to follow, the scenery never changes and every new system feels exactly like the one before it so you don't feel like you're going anywhere; there's no feeling of progression other than "leveling up" (I've come to detest games like this) and there's no lore to speak of either. There's something like 12 different races to play as, but the only meaningful difference is the appearance of their ships because you're likely going to end up doing the same thing with any of them, so starting over to play another is a bit pointless.

I will say again that the gameplay is good, and the demo was effective at drawing me into the game. Sadly, the game didn't get any better after I bought the full version, in fact it hardly got any different at all. This game could be, and deserves to be so much more. I hear they are working on a sequel (or "he" as I think it's just one guy) but I hope it has a lot more content to offer than the original becuase it can barely be called a finished game as it is now. And while I hate to come off as bashing the game, for 20$ I just expect something of higher quality (look at SPAZ for a good example, and it's even cheaper).
