Here is a cool looking indie project I came across surfing the web and i really like this concept. I added this to the game list and will keep an eye on this one because it reminds me of that rogue-like game propector. Here is a quick blurb from the game website:

FTL is a spaceship simulation with rogue-like elements.

You manage the Kestrel and its crew as you explore the galaxy. Strategic, real-time combat involves managing power between essential systems and choosing which enemy systems to target. Meanwhile, you control your crew to keep the ship functioning and fight off intruders. The combat is difficult but, being a “roguelike-like” game, frequent permadeath is at the core of the experience.

It also reminds me of a board game called “Awful Green Thing From Outer Space”

I like that hands on description of the game. FTL will be a great game if they put you in random situations and you have to use your wits to make it through the challenge without getting destroyed.

Nice narrative on the on-going gameplay...

I sent all three of my crewmembers in to the room anyway. Another solar flare would destroy the entire ship for sure, so there was no time to fix the life support and wait for the oxygen to replenish. We had nothing to lose.

Jack, Gracie, and pilot Kirby went inside and began to repair the engine. All of their health bars were ticking down from asphyxiation.

Thought I would give this game a little bump. I was on their site and they posted this news quite recently....

FTL is really coming together at this point. A lot has been improved since the old demo and there are more changes than we could easily list. So for now here are some of the highlights:

The core game structure is functional with branching paths; varying types of sectors; unique alien specific sectors; and the final sector including (the incredibly hard) boss.

There are currently 5 playable ships with more on the way. They each have their own layout, load-out, crew arrangement and require unique strategies.

The “hangar bay” allows you view your unlocked ships as well as name your ship and crew for the current mission.

Six alien races including ships and crew that have unique traits.

Tons of new events; lots of new weapons, drones and equipment; improved UI; and many more improvements!

FTL looks like it's going for a September release.

Good for them! I wish someone would make a game like Propspector Rouge-Like but just a little more user friendly. So much potential in that game there is.

Game is amazing.

In the last five minutes I have saved a ship from pirates, outrun a rebel armada, and helped a station of scientists fight off a plague.

Now if you will excuse me, it seems one of my crew is infected. Going to have to hide in the cockpit and vent the whole ship.

GET THIS GAME.

The crew of the Darkstar have die many times <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_lol.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

The only thing I have found so far that Iam not too keen on is having the rebel fleet chasing you, although it keeps you moving forward but it would have been nice to have an option to turn it off.

have to second Pinback - would like to see a "content tourist" option (<-thats a difficulty setting of battlefield bad company 2 <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> to set the speed of the armada chasing you

miss the days of fully customizable difficulty like in space rangers 2

although i was quit tired at midnight - i went to bed at 05:30 ... last games that achieved that were ufo and ja2

i like how one can almost feel the inevitable doom in around 20 jumps after some minor incident

btw it plays (without the care for shipsystems) like "strange adventures in infinite space"

This game is pure epic. Been watching it since the kickstarter. Love how it gets across the feeling of controlling both a ship and crew. Certain things could be improved, of course, such as the lack of difficulty options and the unfourtunate problem of simply running into the same event over... and over... for example, the "outpost is being attacked by a Rebel ship" is getting a little overused. Also, it would be pure win to be able to take control of the ships you board. Other than that though, this game is epic.

Actually... say, imagine if this game was combined with rlProspector. Imagine exploring a random universe, as well as planets, with generated species and such, AND controlling your ship in the FTL style.

You have done well to get to end I only managed to get about 4 sector in before everyone dies <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_lol.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

one game i had only one crewman left.

Anyone come up with some tactics for defeating the ships, so far I have being putting the missiles into the bridge and firing the laser at the shield and weapons.

after the 6th sector try to evade ships

you fight one

keep them off your ass till your ftl drive is done then run
