To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Their always is any time he make an appearance I will have to go and have a look.

I see this version is also on Gamergate as well, I may get a copy at the weekend just to see what all the fuss is about and to see if it has improved on Battlecruiser.

There is a demo available on Steam.

I think this game is an example of just the sort of thing that causes people to confuse "too complicated" with "terrible UI".  I have yet to see a game which I thought was "too complicated" by any reasonable metric.  On the other hand, there are some games (like, in my opinion from the demo) GCESSE, which are indeed slightly complicated, but the UI is so terrible that it augments the existing "complication" of the game mechanics to unmanageable levels (which are simply not fun).  This I think was why X3 didn't have a bigger audience, and is certainly why I personally have hundreds as opposed to thousands of hours on X3.  The UI was simply a disaster.  Elite: Dangerous is, as far as I can tell, far more complicated than GCESSE (mostly due to its realistic flight model) but I have yet to see anyone claim that it doesn't "look fun" or that it looks "too complicated", probably because it has a gorgeous UI.

It's really a shame, because I think that games which are so annoying to interface with give "complicated" games a bad name and strongly encourage developers to dumb down their work.

I 've bought every game in the "Battlecruiser" series, up to Universal Combat SE. And I hadn't had the time to play them, unfortunatelly.

This is Derek Smart's game? Woah... now that's a name I haven't heard of for quite some time.

The UI has always been the sticking point in Smarts games.

Ok so I bought a copy from Gamergate and downloaded it and so far it working on windows 7 64 bit.

No idea what I am supposed to do or what does what as it seems to have a non standard controls, guess I will have to read the manual.

Bit of a surprise is that the cockpit is not 3D seems to just a graphic overlay, or maybe I just need to plug a joystick in to look around it?.
