To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Good news is there will be a box version bad news it may only be released in Germany, Austria, Switzerland as there no mention of an English box version on there publisher web site, we will just have to wait until the end of August.
Outstanding
They say 'Full HD' in the promo, I am understanding that the graphics will be updated for the PC release, but will that also contain that expansion 'Valkyrie' that came out a few months ago? Anyone have any idea on game play length that has played the ipad version? Sometimes I look at apps converted into PC games and I will think it is a short game in general I hope I am wrong.

System requirements for PC/mAC
If you watch the trailer closely you will see that there is no collisions, that enemy ships are going through your ship in the video and some of the weapons don't react right on the hulls of ships. But I guess that is expected from a mobile game being converted over, plus in HD you can see better and of course you might not pick up on these things on a smaller display.
I played the intro missions. It's very nice. A very good "starter" sim.
Announcement here from a couple of days ago.
Patch has been released
So I have got the CD copy of the game and I have gone through the usual shenanigans with steam in order to resister it and I even played a bit of it.
And as usually I have gone off line and put steam into it's offline mode and restarted the game only to get nothing as it would appear that this 14 Euro game requires it to be connected to the internet in order to play it.
Have I done or missed something here or is this normal for Galaxy of fire 2.

Same here. I do not know if it's an "always on" DRM or a bug. There is no mention of an internet connection in the requirements.
Grrr DRM, I thought steam allowed you to play offline with a game for a while?
If anyone wants to write a review for Galaxy on Fire 2 please just let me know and I will get it on the frontpage.
Steam does have an offline mode I have about 6 games all bought from retail and registered through steam.
This may be a bug as I can start the game online then disconnect with the game still running and it will play as normal, it just wont start if Iam off line.
Played a couple of hours of it so far and as CaptainKal said it's a bit of a starter sim, theirs nothing bad about it just pretty standard stuff you will have seen in 50 other games of this type.
A few things I like about it so far, they don't use the space cadet story <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//good.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':good:' /> so beloved of these types of game instead you play a space captain who ends up 30 years in the future. It does have a shade of XBTF about it.
The galaxy map and local star map are very nice although they could have done with some more information on them.
The asteroid mining is a bit different to the normal but you will probably get fed up of it after doing it 20 times.
Iam getting really fed up of seeing this screen.
You think they could have made the cut screens longer to cove up the transition points in the game.
Finally got an answer from Fishlabs about the DRM question.
So hopefully they might change in the future.
Just found the best way to mine asteroids for the cores, equip the ship with a tractor beam and a shield then just ram the asteroids and pick up the cores. <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//laugh1.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

So it's not a bug. It's a "feature". <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_biggrin.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

Yes they maybe after Ubisoft crown for idiot DRM. <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//biggrin.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Fishlab must be "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" fans, read the description of towels and digital watches.
It's a pity they did not include any of the add on as there not much to do in the game once you finish the storyline.
Not seen any unlockables on the PC version, did find one trader who will sell the coordinates to a new system but it appears to be the only one.
Fislabs have made the same mistake that Freelance dose as they give the player no reason to continue player after the main storyline is completed.
Eh, the graphical aspect has been stepped up alot. But it still just looks like the mobile versions, and I doubt it'll have enough depth to be enjoyable on PC. I've got the HD version on my iPad, and it seems almost identical. Combat has always been... slow, and too simple, in my opinion. And lasers hit where they shouldn't. But I guess others will like it. <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_biggrin.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />
The game pretty basic for a PC title, there are better free game available on the PC

While this is true, it still has a decent story implemented and plays like a console version of Freelancer. I like it, although I played it only for a few hours. I hope they will release some expansions that make me play the game again. For 15€/copy it is very worth its money. I would say.
Yes. But it is a perfect entry level space sim. Those free games you are mentioning, are more complex and more difficult than GoF2.
