To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

I was thinking about creating a list of space trade/fight sim games and what kind camera and control scheme they have.
Just trying to gauge the interest here,
since I know first hand that such info can be very hard to find without actually playing the game yourself.
Camera and controls could very well be the defining point in whether a person enjoys a game or not.
I could use some help with the most appropriate usage of terms relating to such an endeavor.
For example, lets use Freelancer, ..wing commander?..(i know next to nothing about that game) and Escape Velocity Nova.
FL : 3D, arcade? chasing and cockpit camera, camera pivot point, mouse and keyboard combination ( & joystick?).
WC : 3D, simulation?, cockpit camera only?, ship pivot point, mouse and keyboard combination & joystick.
EVN : 2D, arcade?, top down view, camera centered on ship, keyboard ship controls and mouse for station interaction.
As you can see..I could really use some help here..I know exactly what I mean, but..I want you to understand the terms as well ,)
Take EVN and NAEV for example, very similar, but in NAEV you are sometimes forced to use mouse while flying with the keyboard, which breaks the whole flow.
Also, lets take FL and the X series, ship vs camera pivot in Third person view...whether the camera feels static or dynamic.
I bet there is a ton of stuff I left out, which could fit nicely in this list as well.
