To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Limit Theory a new KS project.
- An open-world space simulator / RPG
- A sandbox game : No story, no restrictions.
- Completely procedural : A completely new universe is only a button-click away.
- Infinite : The game universe has no boundary.
- Third-Person or First-Person : Command your ship from within or without.
- Deep and intelligent : Engage in far more than just combat or trading.
- Twitch-Based : Aim and fire weaponry directly, as you would in a shooter.
- Approachable : Intuitive controls and slick interfaces ensure that playing will never feel like a job.
- Strategic : Command an entire fleet when you amass enough cash to purchase more ships.
- Extensively-Customizable : Outfit your ship, fleet, and space stations with whatever equipment you choose.
- Single Player : A universe built just for you, that no one else will ever get to see (unless you choose to share it with them!)
- Beautiful and Atmospheric : Gaze in awe at a universe as diverse, vibrant, and uniquely-atmospheric as your dreams.

Good times for space sims. <img src=' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//good.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':good:' />
This actually looks kind of .... outstanding <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
Looks good saw it mentioned on the Elite kickstart last night, see he has a good few more pledges so hopefully he will make his target.
Yeah I saw this yesterday too and posted the kickstarter info on the mainpage, I really like the ideas he has and he sounds passionate about his game and vision for it. $50k isn't too lofty of a goal so I am hoping he can make this funding because it looks really good in the video clips he showed.
Yep backed this lad.
You potentially get a lot more bang for your buck with independent single developers.
As he's young he probably will live on that 50 grand till the game comes out.
Aaaand backed...
not sure though if I will ever see a game for that money. Looks to good to be true. =)
Worth a punt methinks!
Backed this one days ago.
I am a little worried that it might change drastically though, from reading some of the suggestions of forums members...
(people always want to pull the game into odd directions)
That Kid did good.
And I'm a bit humbled by the whole One-Man army thing.
Kudos.
A Project worth backing!
I just threw down some money for it. It looks amazing. I only hope more crowd-funding becomes the saving grace for the future of space sims.

I tend to agree with StarMax on this one, I think this kid will dedicate his life to this game and really aim to please his community. Such a ambitious project for one person but he seems to be doing the right things so far.
$50K goal reached and still 26 days to go. <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//good.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':good:' />
It's hit its funding goal with 26 days to go.
This kid is seriously good you should take a look at his latest video its totally spectacular.
It's quite amazing that he hit the goal so quickly, maybe he can double it. And his engine looks great for a game that still has a year or so left on development.
Eh. I do like how he jumped on the scene with some real oomph. However, From reading his plans, I get the feeling that the game isn't going to be much fun for one ship type people. It really strikes me as the X series with a little freelancer thrown in. Also, everything in space he has shown looks exactly the same. I realize that this is very early early footage, but I kinda wish he would drop the 'fleet-building' and 'rts' aspects of the game and focus on making a fun space sim. <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_razz.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />
I think he is trying WAAAY to much for one fellow. Also, procedural generation is going to bite him in the rear imho. With that much PG, the game will be impossible to write guides for, and what little ive seen of PG being used extensively, it all becomes rather cut and dry.
I'm also not going to back one guy. Frontier Developments is a company with a proven record for producing games. Same with Star Citizen's developers. One kid living on his own? He doesn't have to answer to anyone, and could literally walk away with that 60k and go drink and party it away.
I do wish him the best tho!
That has to be one of the fastest kickstart ever.
Am i missing something? Is this the same project infinite the shut down a bit ago,is it the same one?

Another excellent update from Josh.
Am I the only one being reminded of Bob Ross when listening to Joshs videos?
Who is Bob Ross?.
Interview on RPS with josh http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/11/30/interview-limit-theory-creator-josh-parnell/ and Space game junkie has another one with him.

Well procedural generagon is more a must for a small or one men team. If you gonna make a content heavy game without a army of artist. That why it much more popular with the small programming focused little teams. Doing something bigger. For me it is also the only way to go. But it does sound like a feature creep.
With the big studio. To pitch something. The publisher also takes into acount.
Recent similar game sucseses.
The team capabilities are filled in.
The CV of the lead developer. As in deliverd titles.
So to KS what has this guy delivered before this. Only finished game counts.
We know what
Frontier did in the past.
We know what chriss roberts did in the past.
They have a few commercial games that back up there chance to deliver. By veteran game industry experience.
For a game project like the big studios. Planing is key. And risk management. Also a producer to manage the team and project.
This means every key feature is analised if its feasable and dev resources cost and if there is experience on it within the team. Even fallback senarioos to replace it. If 70% is nothing more then a part of a list of features some with huge impact on implementation needs and no clue for feasability or any planning for milestone. Such project is like russian roulette. With more then halfe the mag filled. High chance to fail. Or miss any deadline or milestones. And run in much more problems.
So my opinion procedural generation is the right choice for a small team to handle bigger job where you don't have the artist for. But it doesn't counter feature creep. A still a huge pitfall.
