To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

I'm looking for a realistic space sim with customization abilities. Like making your one fighter or capital ship.
Off the top of my head Evochron Legends (Released - Try Demo) and Black Prophecy (In Beta) both have a modular ship system where you mix and match ship modules/equipment to build your ship. I know in BP that you will also need your skill points distributed correctly to give you access to certain lvl of equipment as well. But actual ship design, I can't think of any. There was a Star Trek Ship Creator a few years back.
I've just played Evochron Mercenary and I have one question: The player only controls one small ship? I really want to control big or capital ships.
Have you considered Nexus: The Jupiter Incident? Also in I-War you control a Corvette class ship. Then there is always the Battlecruiser games, but you will have to sit and learn the interface as it is quite complex. If you want to go RTS style there is always the wonderful Homeworld games. More recent there is Star Wolves games were you control the mother ship and launch fighters. ORB (Offworld Resource Base) is another Homeworld clone. Not bad, but Homeworld is still the best in my view. In the later X games you can also fly quite large ships I think. I don't know for sure though because I am still stuck on the first X game were you only fly one ship. Oolite, nearly forgot that one , lets you fly lots of different ships of various sizes as does FFE3D. Then there is the Starfleet Command games were you can control just about all the ships from the Star Trek universe. Hope you can find something. 🙂
No luck with the Evochron series, then. You only control one ship, and while there are larger frames available, none of them really qualifies as capital ship.
The only games I can think of where you control capital ships more or less directly are Starshatter, Space Empires: Starfury, the X-Series, the Battlecruiser series and the upcoming Starpoint Gemini (which, however, takes more of a RTS approach to combat, similar to Starfleet Command).

There's also Bridge Commander 😉
Thats a really good game with the mods like Kobayashi Maru or DS9FX Xtended.
It has fully destructable ships, like how the ground was destructable in the Red Faction games, which is quite fun.
