To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Atari went bankrupt ( again ) and their asset have been sold off at auction last week with the winning bid from Stardock who is reported on some game site as that they intend to make a new star control game http://www.incgamers.com/2013/07/open-source-star-control-2-team-express-doubts-over-atari-ip-sale and http://www.vg247.com/2013/07/23/stardock-acquires-rights-to-star-control-franchise-new-game-planned-for-the-franchise/
Also an interesting thread on the Ur-Quan master forum http://forum.uqm.stack.nl/index.php?topic=5463.msg71108#msg71108
saying that Stardock do not have any rights to use the IP of star control 1&2 only the name "Star Control".
So their may be a new Star Control game just not like the old ones.
This was one of my favorite game in the '90s, I hope it all gets sorted out for SC3 to have all of the original races.
I think (or rather hope) the original devs will be thrilled to be involved in making Star Control III. Like Elite Dangerous, to make a new game from a well known series, it's always best to have the original devs involved. There is just no substitute to having that "vision" that the original devs would have. Also an added benefit is that it makes the new game a more authentic addition to the series which means a lot to fans of the older games too. So all in all, perhaps it's a good thing it's worked out this way.
Isn't it great though to see so many of these older games making a return? Elite I have already mentioned, but there is also re-makes of The Chaos Engine, Alien Breed, Flashback, Deus Ex Machina, Populous (Godus), Homeworld, Syndicate and god knows what else still to come and all at various stages of development. Yes interesting times ahead and it says a lot about brand new games these days too. :girlcrazy:
Bit on Gamasutra http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/196820/Stardock_wants_to_give_Star_Control_the_XCOM_reboot_treatment.php with a quote from Stardock CEO Brad Wardell.
Stardock CEO Brad Wardell said, "We expect the new Star Control to come in the form of a reboot, similar to what Firaxis did with the XCOM series last year. We are looking at Star Control II as a major source of inspiration."
Looks like they will be going for a 3D reboot and hopefully they will use Star Control 2 as their inspiration, just hope it not going to be like the unreleased PS1 game StarCon which would have been Starcontol 4.

Think we may be seeing developer and publisher looking at their back catalogs and resurrecting dead game genres, makes a change from all the generic triple A games.
nice links with those bidding results - the most interesting part imo:
who got that almost juicy master of orion franchise (almost cause of "3")..
back to starcontrol there already is a 3rd part (1996 me thinks) - and all of the 3 parts can stay dead with its bugs and horrible ui.
Old is usually not good - your memory just removes the not-so-nice parts.
i rather wait for an english translation of the latest spacerangers2 HD something from russia 😀 for some nice free roaming space adventure.
