To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

In a lot of space games, mainly MMO's you have skills that you work on leveling or you purchase to improve your character. But I have always been a person that skills shouldn't matter it is the persons actual flying ability that should matter. Don't get me wrong ship/equipment and skills should play there part in space combat but it should all come back to the pilot. Plus flying is something you can improve on yourself and will set you apart from your other players. I would like to see skills that mainly work towards enabling other ship classes, improvements to certain ship systems, mining and trading skills, building skills for stations and crafting ship and equipment parts.
Mostly agree here. Character skills/level should not effect your aiming or how fast you press buttons. It's really fucking NOT awesome when level effects precision of your shots.
As to me in space sims we'd better say education and ranks rather than skills.
Sure buying some advanced equipment or ship from navy would require some good rep and high rank(though you should be able to by it from pirates simply for cash though).
Well you got me here I guess...
I second that. I am quite happy with the system Freelancer offers 😛

Thats the freedom here talking nothing wrong with rank purchasable ships, but also would love the pirated versions (at more expensive cost of course). Ships and gear obviously will play a part in combat but the skills themselves should never outweigh a good combat pilot.
As a well-known character would have said: indeed
