To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Great news. No further infos on their site but one of the random hompage artworks shows an astoroid belt and they were involved in the devolopment of Tachyon. So i'am looking forward for 2012 🙂
Maybe we will get some news on the game in the summertime when I believe E3 is conducted. Another rumor of sim game development is from the dev team behind Warhawk on the PS3. There has been lots of talk that their secret project game will be in space, so we shall see.
lots of space game sims coming out this year and next. I've not played Wing commander since I had a 386 PC 🙂
please let it be Tachyon 2............. i played the frist one to death the game made me laugh alot
If they get Bruce Campbell to reprise his role it would be an instant buy for me 🙂
The thing I thought about is where they are based “Austin Texas†which IIRC was home to Origin and Digitalanvil.

Seamless have announced there game called †SOL: Exodusâ€Â
SOL: Exodus will deliver epic space battles featuring enormous capital ships, hordes of spacecraft and beautifully rendered planetary battlegrounds in an action-packed presentation reminiscent of iconic sci-fi TV shows and movies.

Well the game play vid out can’t say it looks that much different to any other game.
Definitely not reinventing the genre. But the gameplay was smooth and the HUD was very responsive. I would have liked to see a bit better visuals for a game that will be coming out 2011-12. I very much like the effect of shooting and flying into that station/hull and flying out the other end. But after that the destruction of that satellite could have been better. But they are still developing and my biggest questions are storyline and size of universe and what can you do in it besides shoot baddies.
Definitely agree I don’t think they will lighting any bonfires in-less theirs more to come.
Had the impression that the game take place with in our own solar system, with each of the planet having a number of mission set around them an I guess the asteroid belt would be in there as well.

Real interesting thing about this interview is that if they can sell half a million copies, they might have a go at doing a GTA in space.
This was interesting as well:
like your ship's computer being able to interact with objects in space such as defense satellites and the aforementioned transport ships. Once you scan these objects, you can hack into them using a simple code. Fighting big huge capital ships is not about passively watching them trade laser fire; your little fighter can scan its big rivals to locate weak points and your HUD will highlight them in red. Blow all those points up - there will be a representation of its destruction including visible decks and pieces flying of the big ship - and the capital starship will go down. In addition to enemy ships, most of the stations or satellites you encounter are destructible, allowing you to fly right through them if you blow them up in time.
I think what I am interested in most is the storyline and the size and scope of the game universe.

This is a little worrying actually, if they trim all the "boring" bits out, they might be left with a very shallow game. Yes trading in space games can be boring if it's not right, however it also adds more depth and gives the player more to do than just shooting at everything. So yes I agree that this does seem to be a space sim done by the numbers, nothing new and ground breaking here at least with the current info to hand.
Probably just hype with them firing a broadside at there competition.
But I would agree that any GTA style game set in space would have to have some sort of trading in it.
There should be because how else would I part out Pinback's cruiser that I capped. 🙂 GTA style of game would actually have a decent economy if done right because you would be trying to make money off stolen goods and parts. I doubt people would make a living the old fashion way (except for the poor npc's).

IIRC from the space ship thread mines is the Blockade Runner and yours is the battleship Yamato.
So you would never catch me as I would just jump to hyper space. 😀 and run away 😆

The art team on this project are doing a great job with Sol Exodus that's for sure. Those shots look amazing.

Price is expected to be between $10/$15 and released on steam, another interesting point is one of them mentions a possible console version to be released later.
