Good point in that video saying that they maybe should have gone with less planets, a single solar system would have provided all the different environments they could want.

It the one problem with these procedural generation space games in that you can have a huge number of planets with nothing on them like Elite Dangerous or you get a lot of repetition as in NMS.

I believe Bell and Braben originally intended for Elite to have millions of planets, but the publisher vetoed it.

Yes if I recall correctly it was reduced to seven galaxy's and 250 systems in each, then a few years later Federation of Free Traders had about a million star systems in it's universe.

Hope the base building in the game is optional and not something which has to be done.

8x256=2048 systems. If they'd gone for the millions, then maybe they'd have needed to use the whole alphabet in the planet name seed. It's a long-held gripe of mine that some letters are missing from Elite's planet names (and Oolite's too, of course).

Another interview with Pete Hines and it looks like you will not be forced into base building or hunting around for resources, so I would guess that they will have some sort trading system in the game.

Bit of a round up of know features we know of so far, from PC Gamer. Starfield: everything we know. | PC Gamer

  • How big is it? There are 1,000 planets.
  • Character creation: It looks pretty detailed.
  • Traits: You have a lot of choices, from Empath to Alien DNA.
  • Skills: "Rank" your skills by using them. Remember Oblivion?
  • Ship customization: Change the look, layout, and crew.
  • Ship flight: Yes, you will be getting in the cockpit.
  • Crafting: Create weapon mods and conduct research projects.
  • Outposts: Build your own and hire characters to work there.
  • Lockpicking: Yes, it's back. Even in space.
  • Voice acting: No voice for your protagonist, sorry Fallout 4 fans.

Good video from IGN speculating about the tec of the game and as the guy say in the video I think all of us would like to see seamless planetary landings in the game.

If Bethesda nails the whole custom ship creation, space combat and the interaction/jobs of your ship crew this could be really good. The planet and city type stuff is nothing new its basically fallout with a different environment, I just hope the space stuff is solid if they get this right they will be on the start to getting their reputation back 🙂

Very short video not saying much but I'm sold as he mentioned both Sundog and Traveller as influences on the game and they are not having the player run out of fuel.

Still think that not having any ground or air vehicles in the game is big mistake and given that he cites both Sundog and Traveller as inspirations, it seems a bit strange that the game will not have any.

I believe that there is some new information about the game from Todd boy himself, but it's contained in a three-hour chat he had with some youtuber.

Probably just generalisation as they have not given much away so far.

Another very short video, question on and answers format on the games quests, given that it's only five minutes long it sounds pretty standard stuff.

Apparently the date has been changed on Steam from 2023 to a vague "coming soon".

I am okay with them taking their time as long as they don't do another Fallout76 😉  From some of the info I have heard about the game and what you can do in it its going to be something great as long as they deliver on their promises. So take all the time they need to get it right and it will be a huge hit for them.

Think they might be waiting for Christmas, so forth quarter if we are going to see the game this year.

Thats what I would do if I were them, take this year to fix bugs/missions, play test the thing, and of course get the game mechanics and controls right. Because this is going to be a PC/Console release if I remember correctly so optimization will be a big key too. Bethesda needs a good release here to get some of their cred back 🙂

Beat me too it haha.... I think this is a good choice, because they get another 5mos to play test and hopefully fix bugs 🙂 I might pick this up during the Xmas sale if the reviews are treating Starfield nice 🙂 Looking forward to June when they release more video/hype for the game.
