To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Hey Everyone

There is another Space Combat Sim coming from Crioland in Russia. This game has already been released there and I believe the sequel as well 🙂 Crioland is working on translations and fixes for the rest of the world. They say we will see the game sometime in Q1 of 2009.

I was surfing there forums and came across the most info I was about to find on the game here is a small Q&A session:

Quote:

- How many missions are there in the game?

34 missions

- What the planetary missions concern, how many times do you actually go down on a planet to fight it out and can you land on them whenever you like or is this also lineair?

You can land whenever and wherever you want excluding the poles

- On planets do you get out of your ship and are free to walk around?

No, you can't go out your ship.

- How does advancement take place, will you get higher in level and be able to buy some better stuff or do you get it automatically? Do you gain medals also?

There are no medals and no character advancement, you just get new ships and new uberweapons.

- Are there different difficulty settings or is there some kind of choice between arcade and sim?

There are difficulty levels and there are also switch (arcade/semiarcade/sim)

- Do you always get to fly the same ship and upgrade it during the course of the game or do you get to fly different ships?

There are different ships and they differ in terms of flying.

- Can you explain something more on the missions the player gets involved in, meaning are there varied types of missions such and search & destroy, escort missions, etc.?

- How many systems does the player get to visit during the course of the game?

There are about 20 star systems

- Do you usually get to fly alone or always with wingmen?

Well there are missions where you fly alone and there are missions where you fly with a wingman.

- What kind of weapons are there in the game?

There are three types of weapon: power/kinetic/missile

- Is there really no freedom in the game in terms of gameplay or do you have the option to choose which mission you prefer to do next?

Well the game is linear, but you can make about 10 non-obligatory quests at a mission.

- Will there be an SDK available so users get to create there own missions, story?

There are no mission editor inside the game, but the format is open and the scrypts are vey simple, so it's easy to get into it.

- Do you also get to dock in capital ships, space stations, etc?

As for docks, the answer is yes.

- When can we expect a new trailer?

As for new trailers, we can't give you the date when it's going to be out, we will inform you about it as soon as possible.

- Will there be add-ons or sequels?

Well the add-on is already out in Russia, we will inform you about its release date in Europe as soon as possible.

- Is there any Multiplayer?

Yes. In the form of DeathMatches.

There hasn't been too many updated movies or screenshots of the game in action but here are somethings to look over. Has anyone played this game yet in UK, EU or USA that can give the low down on the gameplay and whether it is worth the wait?

Actually, 1C states that the european release will be some time in march 2009 (factor K, the add on for tomorrow war, will be released later in 2009 (indeterminate).

It seems that aside from the russian release, there's still nothing there.

The Russians sure love there Space Sim's its unfortunate that they don't ever make it into english so we can give them a shot. I hope Tomorrow War conversion goes ok and the the game isn't messed up.

Actually, 1C is pretty intent on making english versions of tomorrow war and factor K. Hopefully we can avoid another homeplanet gold fiasco. Although a team is trying to get an english subtitle patch done for this game.

This game is not worthy to try, guys. We never could make a good game(excluding very few exceptions).

In short, that's a f***ing game.

Don't believe me? Go to http://www.ag.ru/games/tomorrow_war , that's the biggest Russian(and CIS) game site, review score is 42 out of 100, users' is 61/100.

It sucks. It really sucks.

We make good vodka and AK-47, not space sims.

Hiya Vital

Thanks for the update on TTW. I put that article through the google translator and they didn't have a bunch of praise for this game. It is truly a shame because I thought this game had some good points from watching the videos. I hope they put out a demo or maybe rework the off points in a patch before USA/UK release.

Well, I've learned to grow cautious of reviews. As long as the game has a good story, I've been known to be very tolerant. Also, one russian sim which would object to your reasoning vital would be homeplanet gold, unfortunately, until the subtitle patch is not ready, non russians will have problems with that sim.

It would not, it's one of the few exceptions(i mentioned exceptions in my post).

Of corse I know about this game(Homeplanet: playing with fire), Babylon 5 was on it's engine.

It's a nice game. The only nice spacesim from USSR.

I still cannot understand why russobit-M retracted themselves and didn't release the english version. Now we are forced on laying all our hopes on a patch project.

Don't think there is,always a bit worrying when there's no demo

Yeah no kidding. I don't mind not having a demo as long as the games beta process is open to a lot of people so the reviews and feedback can hit the web. I hardly ever just by a game on good faith.... well I probably would if a WC6 or FL2 came out suddenly 😯

So I guess I will wait to buy The Tomorrow War until I read Pinback's review 😆

🙂 With all the delays it better be good. I hope the it is decent at the least it will give some people something new to play. But some of the youtube videos I saw were not too promising on the gameplay and graphic detail. I mean a game that has been under development for a while should at the least have the same quality as Tarr Chronicles.

That's a good point IIRC this game was relased two years ago in Russia.so if 1c expects us all too pay

the full retail price for the game they could at least include the add on as well.

Bearing the age of the game I wonder if they will do a retail release of the game?.

shame the russkies don't have e-bay might have been able to get a Russian copy

I have read quite the few reviews and 90% of them are not nice to The Tomorrow War. If I get my hands on it soon I will try to play through some of it and give some insight on the game. 1C should have gotten this game out sooner because the graphics do look a tad dated now. But I would give it a shot.

That's a good review of the game,I still like to try the game myself and I see that there are a few copies on Evilbay.

So I might be able to get one for later on,when I have a computer cabable of running it.
