To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Hey guys - I have a thread here, but now that the game is gone "Kickstarter" I don't know if posting it in the free section still applies.
Anyway - I've been coding away at a "game of my dreams" for 4 years now and reached the Kickstarter and Greenlight stage. I got the idea to combine a space sim with real time strategy - with the aim of giving the player a unique gaming experience - you can fly a ship and you can command your forces - so you can do it all - which is how I like my games - with lots of options 🙂 I always thought that in other space sims the player was too low on the totem pole - I wanted to be both the pilot and the commander, and here we are.

I hope that you guys check the project out, post any questions/feedback, and tell anyone who might be interested about the project.

Candy Backer Level!
I want the Paul Experience, but I can't afford $125!
Do you mind sharing which candies are involved, or is that a trade secret?
Nice ! I wish you all the luck in the world with the KS mate, you and the game sure deserve this kind of recognition.
Hi Paul,
Your dedication to Void Destroyer has been a real inspiration, it helped me believe in my own work on UNION.
I hope your Kickstarter is a huge success and I will be backing and following it closely.
All the best,
Mark
I'll have to create a list of the Candy backer candies - maybe post a photo. You are the 2nd person to comment on pledge amount for it so maybe I'll add a lower candy backer tier 🙂
Thanks guys for the help!
I did post a little something on SSC's steam group as well on both Void Destroyer and GoD Factory: Wingmen. Both of these kickstarters need to be successful.
Pledged, best of luck with the Kickstarter Paul
It's a very modest 20,000 so I would think you have a very good chance of hitting your target and keep hitting these game sites.
I am backing you, just not decided on the tier yet. Soon! 🙂
Thanks guys!
The 20k goal is an honest number, I thought about it for a long time. That's a good minimum figure to get us to release. Keep in mind that it is only for art assets, so potentially it may seem small due to that.
I am a backer now!!!!! :spiteful: :spiteful:
Thanks!
Doing well not far off the half way mark now, lots of updates from Chaosavy as well.
Yeah its going very well - the enthusiasm is great. Not much media coverage yet.
Almost at 50% Chaosavy, not bad for a few short days. I hope the momentum keeps up, any new updates surprises planned for the kickstarter to help with the hype level? I'm not sure on the process since I haven't used their site to upload anything, but have you thought about uploading your game trailer to gametrailers.com? They have a pretty decent following.
That's a great idea - I'll check that out.
The near future plan is - I'll be making two more vids - one a trailer featuring combat and highlighting how it looks and feels. And another more talky video talking about the physics engine and decisions involved and benefits etc.
Like the way you have done the updates as a diary of the game.
You should get a mention on RPS when they do their Kickstarter roundup at the weekend.
Glad you like the history posts. I hope to merge the players, the game and me heh
Yeah I emailed them about it - fingers crossed.
Congrats Chaosavy over the half way mark. :drinks:
Thanks - space sim fans are a great bunch.
Pic of how the backer names will appear in game.
10 Star General Pinback may be a bit too long.
Great update from Chaosavy about the art style in the game.
But - it wasn't what we agreed to. I thought he would create a simpler style. Slaor countered that he felt that the simpler style was too simple and conflicted with some of his artistic aesthetic. This style was great - so I thought - hey I have an artist, the more excited he is, the more he enjoys his work, the better the project is off. Lets let him do his thing.
So to sum up: the current game art style has many benefits. It is unique (in space sims especially). It is lower cost (the texture files can be smaller) in terms of performance. The texture files can be re-used, from small ships to large, meaning less time spent making new ones. Texturing is simpler and more forgiving. Best of all it looks great.
Its always good when a direction you take has many benefits, and this one certainly has many them.
Really dose give the game a unique looks.
Yup, his game assets designs plus their texture are pretty hard to replicate, or better said, pretty hard to match style-wise. He's got a great thing going on with this game and by the looks of the KS it seems other people noticed that as well.
Void Destroyer get a mention on RPS http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/06/09/kickstarter-katchup-june-9th-2013/#more-155997 on the Kickstart roundup.
Thanks for keeping everyone in the loop!
Here's a really cool vid that a one of the backers created.
Demo vid showing the new Arena mode.
And another update pops into the email box.
I'm looking for reward suggestions, so if you have any let me know. I'm thinking of offering up naming rights (those appear more popular than I anticipated) - but not increasing the number of current ones. I was thinking of giving naming rights to the command ship's main gun. You guys convinced me to offer two variants of this gun in game. One will be a projectile cannon (with recoil) code name "The Harsh Side of Justice" and the other a beam variant "The Torch" - I think this is a pretty cool naming opportunity. I was thinking of pricing the naming rights to this fairly high to attract some big spenders. What do you guys think? Those of you reading this who aren't backers, feel free to send me a message.
My usual one a Physical disk version of the game.
