But you have to consider it's already two days displaying "Crowdfunding ends in 30 days".

Maybe they wait until all issues with the page are sorted out before they start the countdown. New credit card arrived today, I guess Star Citizen will be its initiation. ^^

They have done pretty well with the pledges so far according to the email that was sent out yesterday.

Quote:

When I said I missed old school difficulty to gaming you probably didn’t think that I would make the pledge process more difficult than fighting the toughest boss monster in Demon’s Souls!

Well neither did I!

Wednesday morning we set out to prove that PC gaming and Space Sims are not dead… and prove it, we did!

We're absolutely floored by the attention and humbled by your comments. We hoped everyone would be excited about the big idea behind Star Citizen and Squadron 42 -- but we had no expectation about the kind of praise and interest we received yesterday.

The downside of all this attention was that the huge number of people from all around the world trying to learn about Star Citizen and make their pledge, crashed our custom crowd funding page and also took down the core community site.

Until then, we were on track to break crowd funding records. Now, thirty hours later, we're only just getting the core site back online. The proper crowd funding page is still unfortunately down, but we have a backup site that, while not having the full range of features we intended, can take people’s pledges. With this site we have to update the data manually as there is no way to easily collect the crowd funding statistics on a live basis, which is why you haven’t seen a counter on the backup site. We are working very hard to get the main crowd funding plug in to play nice with the rest of the site, so we can deliver the seamless experience we envisioned when opting to have the crowd funding integrated into the main community site. Don’t worry, no one has lost their golden ticket, and we will ensure that everyone who makes a pledge on the backup site is connected to their community account. Please be patient while we organize this process.

We didn't just set out to raise money to build a game; we set out to build a community. The intention was never to shut off the forums, disable the Golden Tickets or stop the flow of information after the launch; anything but. We hope you'll bear with us as we get the community back online. The features you've enjoyed for the past month will continue -- the Comm-Link, RSI Museum and Time Capsule -- along with much more information about Star Citizen and chances to interact with its development team. As we move forward in this endeavor, you are our strongest asset; a vanguard of dedicated fans who will help us build and promote this game.

If you're one of the lucky few warriors that snuck past the Java trolls and WordPress goblins to access the pledge site yesterday, thank you so much for your dedication.

If not, we promise we’ve beaten back these evil interlopers and ask you to pledge and spread the word to make this new universe possible. We are listening to you on the forums, are committed to giving you daily updates and will be rolling out some exciting new features in the coming days that hopefully make up for our initial snafu.

We lost the opportunity to break the first day record, but the race isn’t over yet! We currently stand at $455, 590 raised from 4,564 pledges which is pretty impressive considering the outage we’ve had. Seems everyone wants the RSI Constellation and physical goodies!

But we need get this up. Space Sims trumped RPGs in the old days, let’s get a little of that inter-genre friendly rivalry back!

If you haven’t made your pledge yet, please do as I would hate for the technical problems to have derailed our initial momentum. We still have a ways to go but I have no doubt with your support we will get there. This is our chance to tell the world: PC gaming and space sims are BACK!

Chris Roberts

Cloud Imperium Games

I have read some negative comment from game site saying that they doubt that Roberts will be able to deliver every thing he has promised.

Also seen somwhere a figure of 10 to 12 million dollars being given for the game cost.

2 million to raised from pledges and a total cost of 10 to 12 million for the whole game which seems a little on the cheap side if they are to do every thing they claim.

Well, they don't have to develop their own engine, they just pay the licensee costs for cryengine 3 (500k $ ?) and then have to pay for textures, models, animation and some other stuff.

i guess the employees are the biggest expense factor in their calculation and as it's described at the stretch goals for Star Citizen, more money equals more content.

It seams like the website issues made it harder to achieve the goal quickier.

But still this is a very promissing project. Chris does have the experience and in fact this is in part the ambicious project he wanted Freelancer to be.

But he needs money. I've pledged for projects way less interesting than this one. On kickstarter some not so ambicious projects reached the million mark easily.

Those who love space sims or would like a big high budget space sim to be made again, now is the time to show your support.

I don't see another chance like this comming up any time soon

I will pledge for sure, but it is annoying that there are only 25 days left. Would have been better for me to spend 250$ at the end of november...

Current status:

Goal: $2,000,000

Raised: $769,759

Space Sim Fans: 8,274

and a quote from Ben Lesnick

Quote:

I think the best argument is Chris Roberts’ record – he’s a man who is known for achieving his vision, no matter what the odds. He turned PC gae development from D&D on a computer into multi-million dollar Hollywood productions in four years with Wing Commander because he had the very specific goal of an “interactive movie.” And now he has this new goal–no matter what, it is going to happen.

I should also stress that we have investors… what they need to know is whether or not the FANS are there. We need the two million to prove to bigger backers that there’s an audience for this thing. We aren’t making the game for $2 million, but we need that money to prove there’s someone there to play the game when it comes out.

That's true. Kickstarter already has an established user base with a few hundred thousand people willing to back projects. Whereas the page of Star Citizen just got some publicity on a few gaming sites when the game was announced.

I'm pretty sure he will reach the 2.000.000$ anyway but maybe not much more.

Look at that!

Apparently, the pledges have slowed down...a lot. Something has to be done or they won't even reach 2 million 24 days from now.

Vid here showing a walk through for any one who not seen it yet.

I have to wait until pay day to pledge, and I'm sure other people are still on the fence or haven't heard about it yet. He's gotten 40% of the minimum goal in about 6 days, that isn't too shabby imo.

So, it is done!

I pledged using their Kickstarter page. http://www.kickstart...ig/star-citizen

Come! Join the club! <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//drinks.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Fun fact: the average supporter on Chris Roberts page pledges about 90$ whereas on Kickstarter it is just 40$.

Yes, in only a little over a week. I am going to pledge later today. Now, the real conundrum, how do I contain my excitement for two years??

A few more details about the ships in the game have just been released.

http://www.robertssp...com/ships-plan/

Going to read it now... ^^

Done reading. Everything seems thought through and reasonable. According to the information given the RSI COnstellation will be smaller than expected.

The Origin 300i seems to be the best value for money there if you can look at it that way.

Just been looking at the pledges again and I was wondering if anyone can clarify if they intent to ship the game out on a USB stick or is it all Digital download.

I never read anything about the game being on that USB stick.

If you have a limited bandwith i could send you an USB stick with the necessary data. as long as you live in the EU.

It's probably just the way they have worded it, if you look from the Wingnut package onwards it has the following.

Quote:
Wingnut Package containing;

  • Spaceship shaped USB stick of game and all digital elements
  • CD of game soundtrack
  • Fold up glossy full color map of the game universe
  • Hardback bound 42-page Squadron 42 Manual

Just wondered if they might be putting the game on a USB stick as the packages before it all say digital.

I see.

Well, it would make sense for a game that is advertised as a single player game. I think you are right, we should expect the game arriving on a spaceship shaped USB stick <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_biggrin.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

I just wanted to drop by here and make a few comments myself.

I'm sure most of you already know this, but I'll post it anyway.

As of 11.32 AM GMT (6.32 AM EST), the game has officially reached its initial goal of 2$.000.000(Kickstarter and main site combined) for this project.

As of this post the project is at $2.3 million total

Next I want to quote a post made on the RSI forums about this game.

Its something every space sim fans should really consider.

Quote:

I posted this as a reply on another thread, as it suddenly dawned on me what the success or failure of this game actually means.

I thought it might be good to give it its own thread…

I have a simple question for you lot: Do you like space sims? Yes or no?

If the answer is yes, be that the Wing Commander style or the Freelancer/Privateer style, then you MUST back this game.

Why?

Remember this…

Short Trailer for Star Citizen

Look at the words at the beginning of that trailer and remind yourself how long it has been since the last AAA space sim.

Remember how many industry ‘experts’ said it was a dead genre. Remember how many times you’ve said to yourself, friends or forums that you’d kill for a new AAA space sim.

This game is a challenge to those experts. It’s a blatant ‘prove you wrong’ piece and if it fails, a thousand developers, publishers and ‘experts’ will shake their heads and smugly say ‘We told you so’, and then the space sim WILL truly be dead.

If you don’t back this now (and remember that a pledge of just $30 gets you the finished game. How cheap is that???) for whatever reason you choose to dig up, if you don’t back it because the Wing Commander element comes before the Freelancer element or because the game might not be 100% exactly containing everything you exactly want, if you just let everyone else do it, then you lose the right to complain about no more space sims.

If Squadron 42 is a massive success, then Star Citizen will be a success like the PC has never seen. If this happens, there will be new space sims springing up all over the place. So even if Star Citizen ends up not quite doing what you wanted, the chances of someone else doing it increase exponentially.

IF THIS IS A SUCCESS THERE MOST PROBABLY WILL BE THE FABLED FREESPACE 3 (A point which I am about to make to the SCP forums).

This is not 23 days to make this game viable, this is 23 days to save our genre.

If you don’t help to do it, you have nobody else to blame.

If we don’t do it, who will?

Source: http://www.robertssp...s-to-read-this/

Come on folks, show your support and lets revive this genre before it dies completely.

Let us show those close minded console fixated publisher that PC games in general, and Space sims in particular, are still worth investing in, and not just their crappy console ports.

Show Chris Roberts that he is right in trusting the community and bypassing those stupid publishers.

They already have 265$ from me. Which is in fact way more that I should spent for a video game.

On the other hand the last online space opera is now 9 years old (freelancer) and if star citizen keeps me entertained for more than 2 years the money is well spent.

Well I would disagree with on that point this genre is in rude health and while it's true that none of the so called triple A developers are doing anything I am sure that Roberts game will change that and we will see the big guns return.
