To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

100 hours in, 28 system visited, 44 planets landed on and 7 ship acquired.
Also got my first space magic spell but I'm starting to feel the burn out and I think it because I have a feeling I have seen everything which is strange given their is a lot of content, but given the size of the game their not.
Companion, this game must have the most annoying companions ever, all they do is nag, nag and nag you and even if you do their missions they still nag you after. Going to start using the robot although I have to say they have been useful on a few missions as long as you give them a good weapon to use, but don't give them grenades.
Old Tod boy said one of the influences on the game was Traveller and it shows as I do feel like I'm playing Traveller.
One feature of the game which I have just realised is that the terrain of a planet will change depending on where you land alone with the animals you can find. Something which I not see in any other game as they tend to be the one type of planet like an ice or desert planet.
I have not gotten this game yet. Was waiting for the usual stability patches, mod scene to become populated and maybe a GOG release.
They are also going to release another expansion, I got this last one for free because of the game edition I bought. But I will still wait to play this game until its a solid experience and I would like to see more useful mods (hopefully). I see a lot of promise to this game, Bethesda just needs to keep pushing enhancements (like CDPR does with Cyberpunk). And OMG listen to the people that buy your games, give them what they want and they will praise you and give you good videos on YT
In a 120 hours of play so far I have had only two CDT and a couple of black screens which were cleared by fast travelling to another system and I have not noticed any ground breaking bugs so far.
I believe their is another DLC coming this year, maybe called starborn also their a rumour of some game changing code update as well, hope it cut down on the loading screens if it turn up.
Just did the first mission of the crimson fleet story line, very fun mission but have gone off to do a bit of exploring and noticed that I'm no longer attacked by pirates. which means if I take a bounty mission to kill a pirate ship or pirate and I can get right up to them , then blast them out of the stars. 😀
Look like I was wrong as I have just found out that I have a bounty of 46650 credits 🤣 🤣 but as long as I'm doing the missions I'm safe.
My chickens have come home to roost as I just finished the second mission for the pirates and docked at the key, where I was confronted by a pirate and told to pay or else.
In the resulting I fire fight I kill em all but ended up having to reload a save game and pay the bounty as I do not want to have to fight them every time I do mission for them.
Love that ship builder it is an awesome bit of software and although it dose have some limitations, it's amazing what can be done with it.
Building a new ship in the ship builder and have run out of credits, look like I will have to do a bit grand theft starship.
I just found out that Vasco the robot in the game has a vocabulary of over a thousands names which means that he is able to say your characters name. As in if you called you character Kirk, he would address you as captain Kirk in the game and he can also use swear words. 🤣 🤣
Over 150 hours into the game and I decided to do some more of the main mission, missions and I was going to say they are a bit on the boring side, looking for artefacts in caves. but I did a couple of them and one was really good and then the spaceborn attacked and one of the companions died.
Thing are looking up just a pity they did not take more of the whingers and I not found much use for the space magic as yet.
so I'm on Mars looking to see if they had put any of the geological features in when a ship lands nearby, so I bounce over to it and run around the merc that go off and then board it.
The ship then takes off, so I get the bridge and kill the rest of the crew and I'm in space. WTF no loading screen.
200+ hours in and I think I maybe getting towards the end game, but I'm going to delay going to the new game+ till I get the Dlc if it's in the next Steam sale
Just realised that I can increase the vender credit in the game setting instead of waiting 48 hours in game for them to reset, gives them more credit so I can sell more to fund my ship building habit.
Should be a steam sale today will be checking to see if the DLC is in it.
Also been watching some vids about mods and it seems their are a few thousand of them, will have to start making a list of which ones to download.
Picked up the DLC for the game and got the upgraded version which gives you the soundtrack and artbook as well as 1000 credits for mods.
No idea why the DLC gets so much hate as I have been enjoying it as it reminds me of Dune, also added some free mods into the game for shipbuilding but since I have been using the mods I have noticed that the frame rate has tanked a bit when out doors.
I have the premium as well and just haven't gotten around to installing this, but if people actually watch more in-depth videos on the game and the DLC its seems solid. I hope we get more patches and there has been talk of a 'Starborn' DLC this year. Only thing I haven't bought is that creation piece, which i take it is the paid for mods.
I have been hearing a lot of users have dropped off playing the games that FO4 has more users than SF playing on Steam. I hope that doesn't deter Bethesda and they continue to patch and build out the game and of course create some good modding tools so players can do their thing and expand the game and its mechanics.
I hope near the end of the year I will have more time to dedicate to this.
I have seen the statement about player count a number of times before and their may only be a few thousand player playing the game
according to steam, but the game is a single player game not an online one. So player count, I would think is is unimportant, the bottom line for Bethesda will be how many copies they have sold and not how many people are playing it on one platform.
Good new is that their maybe a PS5 version this year so that should increase the player base and copies sold.
Creation is a free sign up and not all mods on it are paid ones, the 10 or so mods I have running are all free ones.
I would say that when you get around to playing the game it may not live up to expectations and that you will be very shocked at the loading screens. Although you do get used to the loading screen after a while as you can cut them down by using quick travel.
Added two more mods into the game and crashed the computer, although I think I may have done it myself. The two mods in question were more ship parts one and another version of the rev 8 from Bethesda.
There's ten thousand mods on nexus if I read it right? and you have to wonder what they all are?.
Haha, were you successful with the ship equipment mods and do you think it enhanced your gameplay or survival rate?
I am hoping to play this in the summertime or least get it loaded on the PC 😉 I have way too many steam games..... when I do I will be watching a lot more SF modding videos to see what seems great. Are all the planets really empty or is mods changing that too?
Still have not bought it!
The mods I have added to the game do not alter the gameplay as they are used in the ship building part of the game although their are other mods which alter the games combat or add unfinished or missing features.
So 170 odd hours into the game and I would say that I'm really enjoying it, even though I have just been messing around and building ships and not really playing the game as in progressing through the main quest.
But having said that their is a nagging feeling. That the game is missing something and it's really hard to say what it is, it may be down to small immersion things like not having a station around the main planets or only having one main city on each of the three main planets and no roads anywhere in the settled systems. Shattered space dose a better job of this in that it city is surrounded by about 30 poi and even has some roads in the form of paths but it still the only main city on the planet.
Forgot to mention about the planets, most of the planets with atmospheres have alien animals and plants life also they have different biosphere depending on where you land.
the game has about 80 hand crafted structures and another 150 poi which are marked on the system maps with dots above the planets.
Also if you just land on a planet with no poi marked, then the game will generate a number of poi around the landing site, they can be a bit repetitive as the game seems to use the same one over and over again, but their is a mod that can change this.
Added another mod to the game and it's more ship parts and it an awesome mod as it adds in crimson fleet parts, what the mod author has done is taken inspiration from the concept art and recreated it in game.
find it both on nexus and creations under the name of "crimson fleet rearmed" and it a free one.
300 hours into the game and have been reminded of an old thread where someone asked what would be your idea of a perfect space sim. think my answer was a combination of the space of Frontier with the adventure of Mega Traveller and city's like GTA. So for me Starfield comes pretty close to that, granted their are a few things which cold be done better like space which at the moment reminds me of one of older Xgames.
