To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

First impressions is a Rebel Galaxy 2 lookalike, which is not bad thing if they can pull it off and I do get the feeling that they made decision to make the game after the backlash the Double Damage has received after their announcement that RG2 was going to be an Epic exclusive.

My hope is that the story is not the usual "chosen one" saves the galaxy so beloved of this genre and they use a more shady story or character.

My thoughts exactly, rebel galaxy 2 gonna regret that move I think. But even if SG3 does follow the RG2 model that model works and most people love a engaging single player story with content.

SP2 is good, but it never really provided the attachment or engagement with the world so you care about the story or characters.... doing this I think is a good move for them.

I enjoyed the first two games but I have never played warlords and I gather from the Steam forum that this game is a squeal to the first two games and will take place in the same setting as the second game but with added sectors to explore.

Good news is they are going for fighter craft only so no cap ship flying and thankfully they are not going for the usual chosen one story.

+1: IMHO the capital ships in Warlords were bizarrely dogfighting at close quarters anyway, so back to basics may be good. On the other hand I really liked the broadside firing in Rebel Galaxy so let's hope that the very same move won't feel like a loss in that case.

Aye I enjoyed that broadside firing in Rebel Galaxy as well and I found that the joypad controls worked well.

Got an answer back from one of the devs on Steam, looks like you will only have one main ship in the game, although it will have upgrades that will change the ships function and appearance.

Bad memories of Dark Star 1 and X Rebirth come flooding back, guess we will have to wait to see some video, too see what they are thinking about.

Got a couple of question about the game, although it more clarifying some of the answer I have seen on the Steam forum.

First off is the game set in the same universe as the second game with additional sectors to explore.

Is the game a space trading combat game ie Elite or it more of a space combat game like Wing commander or dose it lie some where in the middle of those two.

And just a quick question about the combat Will their be a leading target reticule and a match enemy speed key.

Hi Igor, welcome to SSC and I remember Dorian and Daniel from the early days of SPG.

I have one question for now on immersion, like with any game you want the player to care about the NPC's and the Story you are presenting. I will use BioWare as a example.... with Mass Effect series they really did a good job about you caring about your team and making hopefully the right choices around your team/crew.

Will SPG3 dive more into this aspect and allow players to get attached to their crew? If so, what things have you been kicking around in development that might accomplish this goal?

Will be nice to see that next trailer from LGM has. But with them focusing on SP elements and story I think will pay off. I want to care about timeline and story and what my actions and non-actions to have an impact on the timeline.

I absolutely loved Mass Effects way they built stories/quests around your crew, you cared for them and didn't want them dying.... So implementing anything like that to the game would only be a plus.

Hi guys! Our protagonist, captain Jonathan Bold, is not your everyday "hero". Let's just say he's got a bit of an "attitude". Can't say much now, but more will be shown in our upcoming gameplay video and dev diaries.

We will keep you up to date with the news about the game. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hey guys!

The long awaited second part of our dev diary is finally out! In this part we get a little bit nerdy. We talk in more detail about our proprietary WhaleX engine and how some aspects of the games are improved with it.

Yes, yes, we know, the explosions in SPG Warlords were โ€œmehโ€ to most players, but youโ€™ll be happy to hear that explosions in the upcoming Starpoint Gemini 3 are bigger, visually more appealing and helluvalot stronger!

Thereโ€™s also some depth added to clouds you find while traveling and lighting improvements. Our world and material editors also got improvements โ€“ and are now one!

The best we left for last. We are aware that the control scheme in SPG2 and SPGW was a little bitโ€ฆ clunky. Thatโ€™s why SPG3 has seen a lot of improvements in the ship control area. Lateral, vertical and backwards longitudinal movement was finally added to the mix, as well as improved camera control.

โ€œBut, guys!โ€, we hear you ask, โ€œWhen will you show the gameplay?โ€ Soon! Very soon! ๐Ÿ™‚

Check out the full Dev Diary which goes in a lot more details on our Steam page: https://steamcommunity.com/games/977720/announcements/detail/1718594147071469242

Getting a very Rebel Galaxy vibe here, which is no bad thing.

Not seeing any target reticule in the vid, still to be added?.

To be honest, it reminds me of "Rebel Galaxy - Outlaw" (which in turn, is heavily influenced by Privateer). And it's a good thing!!! Mouse or joystick controlled?

There will be a target reticle. You can see it a bit from 0:51 to 0:55. ๐Ÿ™‚

We will have a mouse & keyboard, gamepad and HOTAS support. We have some gamepads and HOTAS already fully tested, and we are testing new ones as well.

Starpoint Gemini 3 has its own path and once both games are finished, some significant differences between RGO and SPG3 will be apparent. Though, we really think that Double Damage Games are making a pretty cool game with Rebel Galaxy Outlaw. We canโ€™t wait to play it ourselves! ๐Ÿ™‚

Trailer looking good ๐Ÿ™‚

In the combat that was shown, it was fast paced so hard to tell.... but is damage taken on a component basis (ie: you can destroy specific parts or disable a ship) or is more overall damage (ie: ship goes boom after so much damage regardless of sections hit?

What are some of the plans that LGM has in mind for what you can possibly do when on a station/ship when you are walking around? Can we interact with NPC's, play games for money or our property in gambling, can we get in trouble, etc....

Like the tune in the vid who's doing the music, in house or are you licencing it?.

Going to have any destructible asteroids in the game, like the ones in Everspace or No mans sky which you can blow chunks off or holes in.

Hey guys! ๐Ÿ™‚

We are still testing some stuff, but currently, the damage will depend on what kind of ship is getting hit. If you're attacking a smaller ship, you will do overall damage to it. If you're attacking a bigger ship with turrets, it will take damage to component basis.

As with our other games, when you land on the planet/station, you will have an option to trade items, buy upgrades and manage your ship systems. This time there will also be an option to go to the bar or on a secret mission. When in the bar, you will be able to interact with NPCs and they will be able to tell you rumors, history of the place, give quests, etc. We intend to talk more about that and secret missions in the upcoming videos/dev diaries. ๐Ÿ™‚

When it comes to the music, the one in the game will be a bit different than the one in the video, but we think it will fit the game perfectly nonetheless. We're working with Nikola Nikita Jeremiฤ‡ on the music part. We worked with him on Starpoint Gemini Warlords too and he's been such a pleasure to work with!

For now, we haven't yet made it that you can drill holes in the asteroids. We are currently working on a bit more complex way to exploit asteroids compared to SPG2 and SPGW. When it comes to flying through asteroids, though, that will be possible as some of the bigger asteroids will have holes that you can fly through, and find items in them occasionally.

Are you using a controlled throttle for the speed of the ship and not that really annoying "W" key method , where you have to keep the "W" key pressed down to move forward.

Also did not notice a radar in the cockpit, hope that circle overlay seen in the game footage is a temp.

Hey, sorry for replying a bit late. ๐Ÿ™‚

The movement is WASD method with some other keys like Q and E for rolls, etc.

We're still testing some things with the radar system so the system shown in the gameplay footage may not be final.
