To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Without even watching these videos I wondered why the press and the government were making a big deal out of the Swine Flu? Take this stat for instance...
CDC estimates that between 34 million and 67 million cases of 2009 H1N1 occurred between April and November 14, 2009. The mid-level in this range is about 47 million people infected with 2009 H1N1.
CDC estimates that between about 154,000 and 303,000 2009 H1N1-related hospitalizations occurred between April and November 14, 2009. The mid-level in this range is about 213,000 H1N1-related hospitalizations.
CDC estimates that between about 7,070 and 13,930 2009 H1N1-related deaths occurred between April and November 14, 2009. The mid-level in this range is about 9,820 2009 H1N1-related deaths.
Now for the common Flu:
Every year in the United States, on average:
* 5% to 20% of the population gets the flu;
* more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu-related complications; and
* about 36,000 people die from flu-related causes.
So why the big deal? Most of the hospitalizations for H1N1 was probably out of fear and everyone bringing their loved ones in if they saw any sign of a cold. I can see vaccinations for actual killer diseases like small pox, polo, TB and others. There is proof that millions have died from those diseases. When millions die from Swine Flu I will get a shot. I know when I was in the military we got shots all the time and most of the time the never told us what they were and if you looked in my med records for my shot lists not all of them were there? Make ya think sometimes 🙂
But give props to the military I definitely don't get sick much at all. Maybe they gave me some experimental super drug 🙂
