I'm surprised that there isn't any mention of this here. Its the best mod for the X games. It was so good that Egosoft asked the mod developers to go and work for them with Terran Conflict.

X3TC+XTM > X3+XTM > X3TC > X3 That is the order of greatness in the X world, X3TC with Xtended mod would be the best, but the mod is still unreleased.

So X3XTM is the best you can play, it is far better than vanilla X3:Terran Conflict

http://www.thexuniverse.com/content/117-The-X-Tended-Mod

Quote:
The X-Tended Mod 0.7.5 is a modification for the game X3: Reunion by Egosoft.

XTM has a unique approach to modding X3:Reunion, we always try to extend the X3 universe and game style while trying not to upset the careful balance that Egosoft created in the original game. As such, a general rule we try to follow is not to change any of the ES stock game assets, but try to add to them, expanding the game into a fuller experience for the player.

In the X3 Universe, the 5 main races are at war with an alien race called the Kha'ak, they are also fighting an ongoing battle with a race of AI controlled machines called the Xenon. On top of this there are all the petty little skirmishes between the races themselves, and space pirates also have to be dealt with (unless you want to be a pirate of course, then it's the main races that have to be dealt with).

Each race in the X-Universe is constantly at war with someone, and in XTM we try to reflect this by making the X-Universe a more dangerous place to live, but we offset this by allowing the player to own more powerful ships (Although they are all carefully balanced not to be super-ships), and ships that have specialised functions.

Currently a few of the ships we have added are:

A full M7 class. These ships are the equivalent of a frigate class, bigger and heavier that Corvettes but smaller and not as well armed as a full Destroyer or Carrier class ship. They fill the huge power gap between the M6's and the M1/M2's currently in X3:Reunion.

M8 ship class. These ships are built to roughly the same scale as the M7's but with specialised functions and are only lightly armed and shielded in comparison, but in here we have mine-layer ships, shield frigates, front line support ships that can construct M5-M3's internally so you have a constant supply of fighters to help defend frontier sectors (as long as you have the credits that is), and many others that have a niche but important function.

M0 Class ships. These are the largest ships in the universe and are classed as Mother-ships. They are experimental, and rare.

There are also new stronger military variations of some ship classes. For example the M6 class has military variations (MM6) for all races to help defend their sectors against the Kha'ak.

We also felt that the X-Universe itself was a little too small, and that you kept bumping your elbows against the edges. So we decided to expand it for the player. The XTM universe is almost double the size of the original, and is currently (as far as we know) the largest universe created for X3:Reunion. That includes Terran Conflict.

XTM also contains new GFX, SFX, and music all created specifically for this mod.

We hope that our fans enjoy playing XTM as much as we enjoyed creating it.

The X-Tended Mod Team.

I wonder if that mod is already in the bonus DVD of the X Superbox just recently released. When it arrives I will have a look.

I wouldn't be surprised actually, there could be quite a few good mods on there. Look for some by LV (Lord Vadar) his are normally top notch.

There are a lot of things from the mod in TC but just as much stuff missing. /I played TC not long after the mod and was pretty disappointed. The mod was a lot better, it even ran better. Although they have probably sorted out Tc by now.

Yes its the Dyson sphere one. If you haven't played it then its worth a go.

A tip for anyone if you are going to play. The best way I remember to make money when your starting out, is to rob the massive production ships of goods. They are massive you cant miss them, unless your in one of those strange nebula where you cant see ships 10m in front yet can clearly see planets and stars 😉

Hopefully they havent nerfed that, as it really was an unbalanced way of making loads of cash, which is good in a game like that where it can all take far too long. I think you need some pirate module and a transporter to rob them, maybe crew too.

All this talk is making me want to go and fire it up 🙂 Im trying to hold out for the XTM version for TC though... although its looking like thats years off.

Will give it a look some time.

Any one know if it is possible to turn the nebula clouds effect off in X3/X3TC.

Nothing in the latter X games annoys me more. Ok, maybe apart from the bland, overly-shiny space stations that are now common between races rather than being fresh, unique and, most importantly, distinctive. Art-wise X2 was a far superior game. AND you got to fly about INSIDE stations! Grrrrr!

Yes I have downloaded mods in the past to remove that effect. In fact it might not be quite as bad in the Xtended mod but I dont remember, been a long time since I played.

Actually now that I think about it, Im sure that it didnt have this problem the last time I played with lots of mods + xtended, heres a link to an old mod that fixes that http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=182255

Yes this mod for X3 (not for X3TC) is great. I think X3 is unplayable unmodded, but with this mod and couple of others (like cockpit mods) i found it quite funny.

Actually i'am playing it again. I wish i could stick with X2 but i can't find my copy of this game 😡

X3 is not a bad game and has many improvements agains X2. But the overall atmosphere is better in X2 in my opinion. I think many little details like cockpits or the ability to dock and fly in stations makes a great difference. Also it looks more polished than X3. X3 seemed always "not finished" to me(and it contains much more bugs).

Thanks for the hint. I forgot that X2 will be extremly cheap now^^ New copy is just ordered 😛

Just to update everyone - XTC (Xtended for TC) is out - 1.1 is the current version - but there are some bugs still to be resolved. However, it is a huge improvement in many ways - and many of the bugs have known "workarounds". Having worked on XTC, I realize that some changes are going to be viewed negatively by some, positively by others. Check it out and see what you think if you want to really breathe new life into TC.
