RE: Can't run in xsession, runs slow otherwise, Debian 8, "Could not create GL context"

No worries - I didn't buy this thing for hardcore gaming ;)Good luck with the project - I'll definitely come back up to master when I can, hopefully have another bash at making some models (I really like what I've seen so far of the graphical direction it's taking).

RE: Can't run in xsession, runs slow otherwise, Debian 8, "Could not create GL context"

<r>Thanks for the info (and apologies for not checking the FAQ!)I've read claims elsewhere that this chip (which I think is known as an Intel GMA HD, but I'm not really sure) can support OpenGL 3.0 on Windows, so perhaps some version of 3 will end up in the Linux drivers one day. I tried upgrading ...

Can't run in xsession, runs slow otherwise, Debian 8, "Could not create GL context"

<r>Hello all, hope you are well. I've been out of the Pioneer universe for a while (real life got in the way [ <E>:(</E>] ), but hoping to give it another go. I can't get it to run on Debian 8 (strictly Testing / Sid at the moment) inside an already running xsession. Unfortunately we don't have ...

RE: Pioneer Mods on SSC

<r>Well, considering SG model isn't even finished yet (OK, nothing open source is ever finished if people want to keep developing it... but you know, in a stronger sense than that) I think it's reasonable to say you'd be learning it along with the rest of us. All I'm saying is you can either keep ...

RE: Pioneer Mods on SSC

<t>This is free software, so think about what you've actually lost. They've removed the models which they were *legally required to remove*, while leaving the option for modders to add them back - as long as they aren't part of the official distribution, owners are considerably less likely to ...

Sightseeing on the wiki

<r>I made a 'Places of interest' page on the wiki. http://pioneerwiki.com/wiki/Places_of_interest It's getting a fair few hits, but doesn't have anything on it yet. I've got too sucked into modelling at the moment to have any time to actually play Pioneer, so I'm out for the count <E ...

RE: !! Pioneer Question Time !! - Ask them here

<t>Speaking of Ubuntu, I've been thinking of switching to it. I can run it from the DVD, but I can't get the 32 bit Linux version of Pioneer to run. It says there's no application to run executable files. Anybody want to toss me a clue? That sounds almost like you might be trying to run the Windows ...

RE: Using Blender to Create Models

<t>I added the note about 10,000 triangles, if you're talking about here http://pioneerwiki.com/wiki/Optimising_geometry I've seen that number quoted a few places (the bug tracker I think, perhaps the mailing lists too), possibly by kko / Luomu, but have subsequently realised they may ...

<r>@Starblade: Mostly the answer to your questions is 'it's an alpha', I think (though I'm certainly not a dev.) <E>:)</E> The economic system is underdeveloped as yet, but will no doubt become more complicated and dynamic. Factions are at a very early stage, but some discussion exists on the ...

We'll feed it hydrogen whenever it's hungry. It might be the most abundant element in the universe, but still, we promise we'll remember. :-) We might even clean it every now and then too...

RE: Using Blender to Create Models

<r>Thanks. I think it's heading in the right direction - keeping it very simple, so hopefully none of the usual "Build your space ship, then continue from section 2"... <E>:)</E> --ETA That's a dig at Blender's docs, by the way, in case that isn't clear. Pioneer's docs aren't brilliant, but they're ...

RE: Using Blender to Create Models

<t>WIP, I thought a tutorial that went from start to finish through the process of making a very simple ship and getting it into Pioneer was in order. Unfortunately I'm on someone else's Mac, and these things are a mystery to me, so hit a bit of a wall, but I'll finish it up next week when I'm ...

RE: Modular freighter / tugboat design ... early days yet

<r>Having a break from this. It feels like it's moving along, but I don't want to get exhausted by it, so uploading my progress so far and having a holiday <E>:)</E> My hat goes off to all the modellers out there; I knew it would be hard work, but crikey... I've added a few LODs to the tugboat ...

RE: Modeling task: hoop spacestation

<t>I think coriolis effect is what causes cyclones to spin. Centrifugal effect is spinning to create gravity. Thanks Shadmar - those seem to work. I'll have a play around with it, try to get some doors and lights attached, then see if I can come up with some variations. I figure the models don't ...

<t>It seems you can export FBX from Blender, I'm not sure if you can import. Hard to say without trying it... Probably better to go with the oldest / simplest open format that isn't lossy. obj seems popular, afraid I haven't a clue though. I can read .daes normally, it's just that the ones in ...

RE: Modeling task: hoop spacestation

<t>Ah, actually I'm not sure I know how to get Blender or Wings3D to read .max files (there's an import script here http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Extensions:2.6/Py/Scripts/Import-Export/3DS_MAX_Scene_Interchange , but that seems to be for .scn), and importing the .dae from the game ...

<t>I might give that a go. Feeling a bit burned out with my ship, so something more manageable appeals. Is there anything resembling a time it needs to be done by? For anyone else completely bamboozled by git / github, the web interface won't let you download the .psd file - it's too big. You can ...

<r>I mostly use Linux, so Hexagon is a no go unless it gives me a very good reason to boot Windows (I don't think my machine has the grunt to run a 3D modeller in a VM...). I've installed Wings3D - sounds from a quick Google like it's good for 'box modelling', which seems to be pretty much how ...

RE: New Model System ".model" format description

<r>Blender definitely does have its UI quirks. Once you know how to do something it's fine, but figuring it out in the first place can be an exercise in bafflement. Doesn't help that most of the tutorials seem to presume a certain level of foreknowledge that we don't have, and are for versions of ...
