RE: Procedural space game with trading/crafting/modular ship design
<t>Here's a new ingame screen. You might notice that hex grid in the middle which pops up when you are in some kind of a "situation", let it be combat or something interesting. So you will move your ship turn based, attack, research and so on.A small nice gimmick is that every crew member has some ...

RE: Procedural space game with trading/crafting/modular ship design
<t>Hi there, I've just set up the universe which will be made of sectors like in Elite/Frontier. Each sector has a size of 10 light years. There will be 10,000 sectors in x and y, which will lead to a size of the whole system of 100,000 light years squared. Every sector will have up to 9 systems ...

RE: Procedural space game with trading/crafting/modular ship design
<t>Just wanted to show you a quick shot of artwork. This will be one of the ships I will use for testing first. Looks a lot like FTL I know. Well, nothing wrong with that as the game itself will be different. There are quite some sections there. Front of the ship the sensors followed by piloting ...

RE: Procedural space game with trading/crafting/modular ship design
<r>Yes I have this in my mind as well. Abandoned ships and stations, mysterious things here and there. I think I'll definitely come back to you on this and if you like you really could help with the story line and some of this stuff. I might set up some kind of an internal forum and invite your ...

RE: Procedural space game with trading/crafting/modular ship design
<r>Haha oh well. Having a website doesn't mean it's real. Wish it would be that easy. Oh wait, NOT. But yeah, thanks so much again. I've carried parts of this idea for years of my life already and so it will become something I put my heart into. <E>:)</E> Regarding boarding: Yes, always wanted this ...

RE: Procedural space game with trading/crafting/modular ship design
<t>Thanks. It's very motivating to get such kind of incredible feedback. Haven't actually expected this. Currently I work on some kind of a small design document to summarize everything a bit. FTL looks awesome, I completely missed that gem! Boarding of other ships is on my list, yes. And I will ...

RE: Procedural space game with trading/crafting/modular ship design
<r>I've looked at FTL and yes, this is something I definitely want to include! I mean that kind of micro management and battling other ships. Probably not only the player as a captain himself should have a skill tree but other crew members as well. Regarding battles it could make sense to do them ...

RE: Procedural space game with trading/crafting/modular ship design
<r>Thanks again! I will come back to you for sure! I'll keep you up to date. But, as this is a part time project and I have a 9to5 day job, this might take a while. A first prototype should work pretty quick and I already have a name for it: Space Privateers <E>:)</E> I'll go the 2d route and I ...

RE: Procedural space game with trading/crafting/modular ship design
<t>Phew. Now this is quite a list. Thanks again, I will see what I can do and probably provide you with playable demos. Heck I even scratch my head if it would'nt make sense to go the 3d route but yes, this adds another layer of complexity even though I have no problems doing it. But 2d has its own ...

RE: Procedural space game with trading/crafting/modular ship design
<r>You're awesome! <E>:)</E> Thanks for all your time, effort and incredible input! I like your ideas and I am completely with you, even though some of them must be postponed to later to be realistic but please keep your brainstorming flowing. <E>:D</E> Some more questions came into my mind. Let's ...

RE: Procedural space game with trading/crafting/modular ship design
<t>I was a backer of Elite Dangerous and actually did not like that drop of an offline mode. Thanks again for your input, I really appreciate it! So do you think it's a good idea to let the player have one ship (he can have more but only can fly one at a time) he can enhance free quite a lot? I ...

RE: Procedural space game with trading/crafting/modular ship design
Wow that's quite a bunch of incredible good ideas, thanks so much. I'll answer more in detail later, being on vacation this weekend. What about multiplayer? Is that of some importance or not?

RE: Procedural space game with trading/crafting/modular ship design
Ah well, never heard of that game. Let's see if I can put together a small prototype with horrible graphics. I have a good artist as well but don't want to bother him in the beginning. Anything you'd like to see in such a game?

RE: Procedural space game with trading/crafting/modular ship design
<t>Thanks for your answer! So 2d elite clones is a crowded market? Wow. Didn't know that there are so many clones out there already? Going 2d simplifies just a lot and I even want to make it possible to walk on your ship which is not that hard but maybe some nice additional feature. So beside this ...

Procedural space game with trading/crafting/modular ship design
<t>Hi all, I'm brand new here but a space sim fan starting with the good old Elite the days back. Beginning then I was impressed by the vast amount of systems and space. So far so good but I'm quite kind of a passionate programmer, too. My only weak point is artwork but this shouldn't be a blocker ...
