I've browsed through the forums, and the little KB here. SSC is completely unaware of something as fundamental as X-Wing, Tie fighter, X-Wing Alliance and so on :)Especially XWA still seems to be a little bit alive with fan/mod sites like http://www.xwaupgrade.com/

If i were them, i'd figure out how to make the most $$$ of their huge investment. Read : make the core engine work on consoles, and sort out their user interface problem at the same time. Consoles pretty much force one to rethink the UI strategy.

FreeSpace 2, hands down. It perfected the military space shooter genre.For the trading/freelance kind of thing i would call a tie between the original Privateer, Tachyon the Fringe and Freelancer.
