Changelog Alpha 12: All terrains optimised (octave count reduced) (#211)<br/>
I'm not familiar with the terminology ("octaves" to me is a musical term) but is it not possible to code the terrain engine so that the number of octaves is increased along with the detail ...

More than the requisite number of people had the surnames "Hooper" or "Kawasaki" - they seemed to be everywhere!

Comets (including their tails, always flowing away from the sun, naturally) would be cool to have in the game

RE: Pioneer versus SpaceEngine (graphical features request)
<t>I don't like this picture (talking about the SpaceEngine screenie here):The problem with it is because the texture you see in photos of the sun like this...... is that the photo is actually an X-Ray photo which has had false colour applied to it. If you look at the sun, you couldn't possibly see ...

<r>I like modular cities as an idea. At the moment, buildings are literally strewn all over the landscape, somewhat like Lego bricks on a child's bedroom floor. Houses half-way up mountainsides. If anyone is familiar with Microsoft Flight Simulator X, the way the buildings are positioned relative to ...

<r>You could, in theory, have a dogfight with someone (involving getting on their six), even if you are hurtling through a solar system at 15,000 km/secYour ship's frame of reference would be to its own pre-fight speed - you would then accelerate and move around in free flight (maybe even using the ...

<t>I bought BoP for the Amiga as well; we loved dropping the X-15 and timing how quickly we could get it to smash into the ground, and at what speed (hey, I was only 11 years old)I do recall the sky darkening. I also vaguely recall the curvature of the earth being visible - am I remembering that ...

<r>How about keeping the scale of the X and Y dimensions the same, but then scaling the Z dimension down so that the galactic chart looks like it did in Frontier - while still respecting the true Z distance (meaning that you still can't travel to a system that is too far away in the Z dimension).I ...

<t>Do you remember the clouds on the original Frontier? They looked a bit crap, right enough, but I vividly recall the first time I saw Earth from space, and I saw spiralling cloud formations (cyclones, weather fronts)You can't see it very well in this screenie, but it's the best I could find:I ...

RE: Modular Ships (.blend included)
<t>I guess the problem with Frontier was, you never knew whether the ship you were buying was new or reconditioned (the BBS entry mentions new and reconditioned, but the game never made any distinction between them).Look at Gran Turismo 5 - you can buy a 2nd hand car from the "Used Car Dealership ...

There needs to be a slider in the options menu to control view distance, so that slower PCs can keep it as it is, and faster PCs can set the level of detail higher.Question: does Pioneer take advantage of multicore processors?
