RE: Alpha 20 released
<t>Is there a reason that you don't post the changes on the news announcement page?It means that to see what is changed, people have to go to the forums, then find the relevant thread. It would make it a lot more convenient for "readers and observers" to just include the full text of the first post ...

Version 0.5 of the blend was released:http://www.blendswap.com/3D-models/vehicles/shipyard-v0-5/
RE: Buildings
<t>I'm not suggesting that cities should be massive (although, given the dynamic nature of Pioneer, it's not beyond the realms of impossibility; flatten the land to reduce terrain computation overhead and have more buildings).I'm saying that settlements - even the smallest - have some form of roads ...
RE: Buildings
<t>The cities would look a lot, lot better if there were roads and other flatter areas of land. At the moment it looks like somebody used a pepper shaker to scatter them over the surface just before the player arrived. They don't look like they are in a 'used' area of land, but just temporary ...

RE: Thoughts on the terrain rendering system
Another consideration might be offloading computation to the GPU i.e. via shaders.

RE: Thoughts on the terrain rendering system
<t>I think you're looking at the problem the wrong way. Increasing the view distance is always going to hammer the CPU.What you need to consider is ways of working out detail at a greater distance for lower cost, so that the update when you get close is barely noticeable, if at all.Ideas:- rendering ...

if you could crack a tool out pretty quick, that would be great!
If you can point me to some images somewhere then I'll have a go! Include the animated overlay, I'll do something with that too.

RE: Modular Ships (.blend included)
Updated the post to indicate this is a suggestion based on an already implemented proof-of-concept, as opposed to just a whimsical idea.

<t>Has it been tested on Windows 64bit? There was some bugging out in the UI (in the options, the 'controls' lettering and the background strip behind it were vibrating in funny colours). Also I couldn't work out what to do. I was staring at a blurry logo. I presumed this was a landing bay or ...

Do you need a preview tool for seeing how the different images fit together? Or are you managing OK using layers in photoshop?

<t>Ah yes, this is a good approach. Somewhat similar to the Transport Tycoon way of doing it. They have a hi-res replacement for that, which - with suitable modifications to clothing - could be an option (not sure on licensing) but it's available here:http://jupix.info/openttd/gfxdev-repo/index.php ...
