Elite and Occulus

Post by UtilityFunction »

Heya folks, I had a go on Elite at the weekend at Eurogamer expo. Frontier had a huge setup - each station had a couple of joysticks for controls and a few had Occulous rifts. Sadly I didn't get to try the with the Occulous, but I can see how well it translates to Elite. The joysticks they had were the same as the ones in the cockpitin the game, so if you have a Rift on it looks like those are your hands.Elite is tempting me to go whole hog at some point and get an Occulous + Joysticks. I can imagine it being the most immersive 3d experience ever. Just for a bit more comparison, the Occulous is being used mostly in FPS games where the character you are playing is running around, while in reality you are sat at a desk mashing buttons. In Elite your sat in a cockpit - basically a desk staring at monitors and mashing buttons - it'll harmonize nicely with your real actions so the hands in the game will feel like your own hands.
