What's next from Egosoft?

Can't see the x games ever going onto the consoles as they are just far too dull a game.As for those part time game devs Egosoft I can't see them doing any thing innovative or moving too far away from what they have been doing for the last decade.So If they ever do,do anything I still think it will be some sort of RTS game set in the x universe.

Do you mean something like Homeworld Pinback? If so it might be good if they get the story right and streamline the economics system a bit, mind you I think I would still hold out for Homeworld 3.

Just my IMO on the x games,they just feel like a wannabe first person real time strategy game and I would not be suprised if there next game was a RTS or even a 4x game.There is after all a good ten years of back story to the games and they should be able to find some thing in it.

True enough, just the E.V.A bit in X2 could have been expanded into a full on game, but my secret hope is that this will be a part if E4

I always like the manual docking that let you fly right into the station in x2, bit of shame they never developed the idea any further by letting the player out onto the station.instead they just threw away for a flash graphic upgrade in x3.

I would like to see Egosoft do what EVE is doing and make all stations avatar capable and let people walk around. Or at the least make certain size ships have the ability. Would add that extra WOW feeling to the game. But I think I read somewhere that Egosoft has a patch release schedule all the way to 3.0 so you never know.

Don't forget the box set,now if this box set come out at christmas and as Egosoft are not renowned for producing quality games it will doubt needs some patching let say about two years worth,then they will need another three years to do any thing new.so we are looking at about 2015 before we see any new game from them.

True But on the bright side; at least they're making patches and doing some actual work.Personally, I'm hoping that EgoSoft will announce The Next Big Thing on GDC 2010 and I hope it'll be an MMO; after what I've read about JGE and BP, there's still a huge market for an online X.

Infinity well named as it is the infinite wait. Still can't see an online version of the x games working,as I can't see it bringing anything new to the table that you can't find in one of the other online games.It would need some hook to get people interested and Egosoft are far too cautious a deveolper to make any sort of bold leap.

Man diapers Depending on the tools they are using Pinback, a level designer can also be for campaign work as well not always actual levels like in a RTS. I would hope they don't go that route personally, since they already have a good base to work from. Now they just need to expand the game to more action in combat, more interaction on the ships/stations, possible planet landings. I wouldn't mind seeing a MMO from Egosoft but it would need to offer some good stuff to compete with all the others out there.When is GDC? October?

Interesting, because I think it could - although there are games I haven't heard of. Vendetta Online is too small, EVE Online is a point ' n ' click game, BP and JGE are centered around combat, and so on.I can't find a real sandbox space-MMO that is not EVE

Had a look on the guys web site he says his main skill is level designs for ARPG,RTS,FPS games and dont think it stretching it too far to say it might be a RTS or 4x game,after all CCP are doing Dust which is a FPS set in the Eve universe.Given the fact that Egosoft has spent ten years doing one game,will they do some thing totally new.

IIRC they did say that they're done with the X-series, but not with the X-Universe. Which isn't really bad; a game set in the Terran Colonisation, Terraformer War, or sometime near the Old Ones. Same universe, but still very different.

Linear in what way? Okay, the exploration part is limited, but you can do everything else, and the only thing that limits it is the fact that it's still a singleplayer game.

My impression is There is only one path through the game and which ever star position you chose,you will always end up having to manage a fleet of ships and stations,as there is simply no other way to progress in the game.Any attempt to do any thing different just leave you in a dead end.

That's my impression as well. In something like Frontier you at least had a choice, some variety, in how you wanted to progress. In the X games you HAVE to trade like a total mofo to get anywhere. I bought Terran conflict about a month ago but despite repeated attempts just cannot face getting into that whole grinding treadmill again. It would be nice if they could provide an options that starts you off with a large established company so you could at least jump into the universe without having to worry about making thirty seven runs just to be able to afford that next equipment upgrade or hull repair. But no.

The problem is that either you guys are too bad or I'm too good I pirated myself to a freakin' billionaire in X3R (TC is for pussies as I already wrote) without touching an ECell for the purpose of trading. But - then again - we all have different views of life. And before you ask: NO! I do not own every tittle of X 5 times (only 4)! On topic, I still believe they're making some sort of MMO, since Bernd stated a few years ago on GDC that they are going to make an X-Online. The "X-Fans" like EgoSoft because it's the only company that REGULARLY make a spacesim and is available in english globally. If Egosoft would walk down from this path, they'd be in biiig trouble.

Well you know what devs are like say one thing then they do some thing else. Then there the cost of doing a MMO Proberly runs into a few million to get one up and running and they not always successful.Would Egosoft really take a chance like that.
