Yeah, I play my own music in the background all the time. Usually classical stuff and synthesizer, I'm not really into jazz. I do like blues but the only place that would fit in would be in a spacestation bar :D . But I think it would also be nice if Pioneer had it's very own unique soundtrack. Some games will always be remembered for having a very good music score. But of course there's plenty of time. Maybe in the future somebody will make a few very nice and unique music tracks exclusively for Pioneer.
How about different radio stations like gta? that would be properly awesome! It could have a synthersized android voice which dynamically announces songs and reads the news :o .. yeh I'll be expecting that in the next update

Now that would be ambitious, you would need a proper recording studio to pull that off I think, mind you, that's not to say there are big Elite fans out there with just that very thing? ;)

didn't i mentioned that once before to?yes i did.but i guess, no i know what tom thinks about it, you can allways play your own in the background if you like to.that's true, but on the other hand...a cool thing would be a pioneer web radio, not only to listen for the players of the game.maybe community could create the score by contributing music to it, why not?i'm not bound to a special genre, i like most music as long as it shows some "class", some enthusiasm of the performers for their arts.anyway i hate genres, it kills imagination, and let people prejudice because they don't listen then to something only because they don't like the genre or what it stands for, even when that is stupid.i like american folk music, but most people here would say it's country & western, they are often surprised i listening to such. that's prejudice! first LISTEN, then comment.---"who is responsible for that?!"---"guy lombardo? rimski korssakov?" (the fab four?)

One could find suitable music on Magnatune. Tons of tracks in ambient, electronic and other genres. Any music there can be used under the Creative Commons BY-NC-SA license which means:You can Share the musicYou can Remix the music or create derivative worksYou can use it in Noncommercial projects, such as PioneerPerfect. And it would also Promote the artists :)

Now if he'd been busy flying his plane instead of listening to crappy distracting music, he would have realised that he was jamming his fist on the Wrong Button. In case you mised that, the guy tried activating his VTOL engines to escape, instead of his main engine ;)

A Journey Through Space is a free compilation album using Korg synthesizers. It has song titles reminiscent of Holst's Planets Suite, but the songs don't seem to express the Planets described. It ranges from electro-pop to ambient. You may find a couple of tracks in there that you'll want to add to your Pioneer sound folders, when that option becomes available. Symphony of Science is another free album inspired by Carl Sagan's Cosmos.http://www.symphonyofscience.com/ just thought of another. Music From Outer Space is free music from Ray Wilson, who builds and sells the electronic instruments used in these tracks. Synth classics, pop covers and some ambient stuff that I really like.http://www.musicfromouterspace.com/mfosweb/navigate.action

I made a music clip of a new chillout number I made. At 1.29 in the Vid I used a movie I recorded in Fraps out of Pioneer. I credited Pioneer at the end of the vid.I still want to contribute some music to the game. I will start soon. !In the meantime check my vid:

I know this is a revival of an old thread, but I've become a bit bored with the music that's included in Pioneer. It's not that I don't like it, I do. I've just been craving more variety. In FFED3D I put in a bunch of mp3 files from other sources to spice things up a bit, but Pioneer uses the ogg format and I couldn't find much that I wanted to use. I did a search today for a free file converter and found this.http://spider-player.com/ converts just about anything to ogg and does it well. The midi files from Noctis actually sound much better. Listening to the main theme from FFE while approaching Gates Spaceport was awesome! :D It finished when I was just outside the "gate" and then switched to the Minute Waltz as I entered. 8-) I now have a nice mix of old and new music. It's for Windows only, I'm afraid, but I thought I'd share. :)

The music included in Pioneer is very good, but the time is tiring and monotonous. In Linux use SoundConverter to convert mp3 to ogg.

Vega Strike (http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/) uses .ogg and there's some pretty nice tracks on there, I wonder if they would be happy to let us use some of those?

Wouldn't hurt to ask, but for our own personal copies I'm sure it'd be fine.

I think whatever tracks you choose for a soundtrack, eventually you will want a change. I've noticed with a few games that they use a very sublime background music to create a "feel" to the current situation. For example Fallout 3, it has an endless tune playing quietly in the background while you wander about, if you get attacked it becomes a bit more tense while remaining subtle. Its not really meant to be heard. Far Cry 2 does this also. I think that would work well with Pioneer if you got it right. It doesn't stop you putting actual tracks over the top either if you wanted. Rather like listening to Galaxy News Radio. (Sorry to all the Fallout 3 haters out there...)

I'm quite happy with the music myself, and as you say if I get bored I can always copy or add my own music files into Pioneer, or even just have my own music playing in the background using wmp or any other player.

I'd love to produce some music for Pioneer too!I cannot promise anything on short basis, but I'll try to have at least something for the next month, even a teaser. Also, I think the idea of having different music cues for different places (planets, docking, etc) would be totally awesome.Anyway, I love doing "space" music, and I'll try to start doing as soon as I can.See ya all!

I like the music in Pioneer but I have also customised it with some tracks from Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, AC DC, David Bowie, Crosby, Stills Nash &Young, America, The Eagles, Peter Green & the later Fleetwood Mac with Stevie Nicks and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Yes classic Rock is alive and well in the future! Valhalla I am coming! ..............

And for exploring desert planets
