Now this is interesting. I have been trying to complete to english version of Parkan for quite some time now, but was never able to insert the videos properly. So my plan then became to insert the english language files into the german version (easier to do and no russian interface issues). Unfortunately, my disc got damaged somehow (I used to play it a lot but it had always worked on my older machine) and I have ever since been looking for a replacement. Now imagine my pleasant surprise when a new & sealed copy turned up on ebay for €3,90 and my incredible anger when it vanished mere seconds before I could hit "buy". It's nice to see it turned up here, though, and I hope you can get something working out of it. If you manage to upload an iso of the german disc to the file area I might be able to help you out (provided XenonS doesn't chime in in the meantime with his completed version). It's been about half a year since I last messed around with Parkan's files but I *should* still have my notes somewhere on my pc.

Been looking for Parkan for ages myself, nearly didn't buy it as I though it was just a disk. so got a nice surprise there :D Unlikely I will be able to upload anything as I have the worlds 2nd worst broadband.Guess we will have to wait and see if XenonS pop back in.

Np, I'll just have to keep on looking for an affordable copy. Should I ever find one and manage to produce something usable from it, I'll let you all know.

When did this come out again? You could download something like VMware and install WindowsXP or 95 on it to see if it will play on that.

It’s a windows 95 game. So it won’t work in D-fend and Xensons said it won’t run in Vmware.I can’t get it run under XP and on my old 98 laptop, it seems to install the game but then crashes.

The latest version of D-Fend does have a windows option, but I cannot say how good it is as all the stuff I run is DOS. Try it and see.

Have you tried copying the contents of the CD to a folder on your hdd and launch it from there? I remember there being issues with the installer on some machines (though it usally worked fine with Win98).

Just copy the CD. The installer doesn't seems to work, on WinNT based systems. (BTW I also found my disk images from the Russian and the English version. I will give them a try later this evening).

No joy with transferring the game from disk to the harddrive as there seems to some sort of copy protection on the disk. The game should work on the 98 laptop but keeps crashing out at the end of the install although it may be due to the laptop not having a graphic card. One interesting thing I have found from looking through the manual is that the screen shots all have English text in them instead of German text.Had a quick look at D-fend but I think you can only run windows games for the current os you have installed on your machine. :?:

Since I had some free time today I took a closer look at the russian (Gold re-release) and english (3dsl beta) PARKAN.EXE via HEX-editor. While i found most of the english text in there, the interface text seems to be somewhere else (an encrypted image file package perhaps). I briefly tried to insert the english text into the russian version but stopped since it would be way too much work (different string sizes mean I can't simply copy & paste and would have to edit the text strings manually - a gargantuan task even WITH knowledge of the Russian language (which I don't have)).I really don't know why the english exe can't open the russion .nav files, as the my HEX-edit showed that the two exes point to the same filenames (intro0,nav, etc.), and I couldn't find a way to make it open them. It's twice as odd when you consider that enabling english VA in the russian ver by copying over SPVOICE.LIB and renaming it to SPVOICR.LIB actually works. At this point I think that the german version wouldn't have been of much use to me anyway.

This German version is later as the manual has a copyright of 1999.I collect space trading games and have a few non English language games in the collection.

Can you tell me, is this German version in fact in English - only manual is in German, like German version of Battlecruiser Millennium Gold?

Yes. Thanks CaptainKal!PINBACK: but I want know, is this game in English or in German. If the screenshots in German manual are in English mustn't mean, the game is in English itself. Can you install it, and simply run?
