Ok three news items for you: 1. Our KickStarter campaign to hire our artist full time has at last kicked off. Rewards are crazy good value... want a planet named after you, a cloaking device or a terraforming device?2. The August update video is out, and I forgot to post it here3. The first player made gate pair has completed construction and is now usable:

Update from Kickstarter. Wow... ! Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine that we would secure this amount from backers in the first 72 hours from launch. We would like to thank everyone for their contributions so far, the number of large backers is astounding and we are humbled at your faith in us.The Kickstarter press release went out this morning and is already generating some media attention - links below!http://www.onrpg.com/articles/news/ascent-the-space-game-now-on-kickstarter-seeking-funds/ repost, share, talk to everyone you know ... the more attention we get, the bigger the buzz -- which could lead to a feature in a major publication

- James and Chris I really hope these large backers are genuine and in the mean time you guys need to be doing more updates to get your backer number up.

More updates are needed with only 8 days left they are still about 13K short of the target, they should be doing one a day till the end. Introducing George's latest masterpiece, our new Space Station model! Five kilometers high, four and a half wide, this monster has twenty individual components, a dozen new textures and two new shaders.Combining form and substance, this breathtaking new addition to the game is entirely consistent with game lore and story, and hints at interior spaces where in future, players and NPCs will be walking around. This upgraded art demonstrates our ongoing commitment to the game development, and shows you what we're capable of! With only 9 days to go, we're 64% funded and need your help to be successful. Share with everyone you know, we can do this! We've also had some further press coverage since our last update, including:Game Refractionhttp://www.game-refraction.com/?p=178 Game Newshttp://www.indiegamenews.com/2014/10/ascent-on-up.html our Greenlight campaign is gathering momentum - we need only 200 more votes to get into the top 100, so please help us out there if you can!We very much appreciate your support throughout this Kickstarter campaign and will continue updating as we come closer to November 1st- James and Chris

I've been playing this for about 2 months now. It's well done, and you can definitely see the improvents the new graphic artist made (and is still making). The ability to seamlessly land on planets and building colonies there is really something special, at least not something I've seen in other games of this scale. The game is definitely worth the money (to me), although for me now it starts to need some more things to do. However, it took me 260 hours to reach that point, so take that with a grain of salt. Updates are coming at a steady pace, so I'm sure I'll soon have new toys to play with again

A bit of a shameless plug: here's my videoreview if anyone's interested

Just been on Steam and seen that Ascent has been updated again and was looking at what it was, then I noticed that one of the other updates lets you walk around your colony and interact with some NPC.

here's Waervyn video about it.
