Hi Everyone. Just a heads up just in case you see people complaining that they cannot use the site. Since people have been wanting to spam SSC I have decided to make registration go through a approval process in which that process will go through me.And I will admit I will not check this everyday, so if you are a LEGIT PERSON and you want access to SSC please email me (admin at spacesimcentral dot com). But this should stop the majority of the spam since I have to personally approve users. Sorry it has come to this, and yet another reason i need to upgrade the site  When the newer version of the site is online trust me spam will be a #1 priority at squashing and I will put in whatever permissions or filters I need too to make that happen. I HATE THEM, and I usually like everyone but spammers really serve no purpose at all on the station so lets just blow them out the air lock :devil:

Thanks everyone. Also as of this morning if you are a member that has registered in the last 3 months (when spam started) and you have not posted and your account doesn't look like a legit person I will remove you. As Pinback has noticed is that we have had accounts signup and not be used for a few weeks and then start spamming. So I will take care of these this morning. So if you are impacted by this change, please re-register and let me know by emailing me.

But I logged in today and I just cleaned the threads I think on Thursday and there was 42 spam posts why us .... for a space station on the edge of the galaxy we sure do get a lot of attention. Its slow going with with creating conversion sql scripts to export data from wpforo to whatever platform I might pick (either flarium or phpbb) .... so I will try to keep the forums clean for everyone unless everyone likes these posts then I will keep them
I used to ban the users, but I must have thousands of banned users... now I just delete the posts and clean the user table every few weeks of people that only visited once.
Spam is such a pain

Yup a definite increase in spam post since Christmas, what I don't get is that as we are an English forum why post in Chinese.

In the end its all about SEO so the more links they try to post they could get more traffic or get paid for posting links Least they don't benefit from the post since I disabled links until a user posts 5 times. Just irritating having to always clean up after them haha

Wow in 4 days got 76 spam posts ???? why are they hammering SSC I guess spam exists even in space our future is getting bleak

D1 next time you in can you ban a couple of bots, by the names of Ervinsalesgroup and Luxymeets, been making themselves a nuisance the last couple of weeks.
Might also be worthwhile purging the member list as well.

Yes, when I logged in today there was 190 spam posts that I had to review
I will also be making a post in the admin area. I am going to try to convert the site over to self hosting and phpbb while I am on vacation. With the hopes of solving this bot/spam issue. Sorry I have been absent a lot been doing a lot at home with work and getting ready for the new baby ... gonna be a dad again
