Let me get this straight. Winter began on the midwinter solstice?

Southern hemisphere winter is 1 May to 31 July. Solstice is related to the high/low point of the sun in the sky, and falls around the middle of winter and the middle of summer (midwinter and midsummer solstice, respectively). The related event for autumn (fall) and spring is the equinox, when the centre of the sun is in the same plane as the Earth's equator.-- Rob, thoroughly enjoying a southern hemisphere winter in Melbourne

Well, it was to disambiguate from the one at midsummer.

I use the definitions provided by the local weather bureau: http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/glossary/seasons.shtml
Quote:
Spring - the three transition months September, October and November. Summer - the three hottest months December, January and February. Autumn - the transition months March, April and May. Winter - the three coldest months June, July and August.
I wasn't aware of it being counted differently in other parts of the world but I have never actually looked into it.

I think the seasons are all out of whack anyways. In Scotland the weather has always been a bit mad (if you dont like it just wait 5 minutes and it will change to something else

), but lately it's been more crazy than usual. It's more like spring here rather than summer :?Incidentally, if weather modelling ever makes it into Pioneer, remember and set Scotland's to "total random"

Seasons are based on the amount of sunlight in hours and angle of the sun, and not on temperature, its merely a by-product.Otherwise Spring would often be summer and vice-versa.

The whole of the UK is like this, although maybe not quite so mad as you unlucky northerners, but its still completely barmy in the south. For example our spring so far had been far hotter than summer by a large difference, however over the weekend we had the most random heatwave with temps in excess of 32degrees, and now its back to being overcast and stormy. And as I write this, here comes the rain....

So, you don't actually live in the virgin islands then Dan?

This question interests me, too.[attachment=811:Virgin Islands.jpg]

Hehe, no I just liked the flag, and being completely unpatriotic I chose it ;)Although technically my country's flag is not available; there's no St. George's cross.

hmm yeah in its absence, I just haven't chosen one. I did wonder why someone who lives in paradise would want to spend free time inside working on software.

Ok, s2odan, but I'm leaving Charlotte Amalie in there anyway.

This got me thinking, why dont we have existing spaceports in Pioneer? Namely Kennedy, Baikonur and Jui Quan.Oh and just for s2odan

That is certainly a beautiful place!

Just for fun I'm adding everyone's hometown I can find. Yes, even Croslee. There's someone from Orlando, which is right next to KSC, but I doubt anyone here is from Baikonur or Jui Quan (or Kourou). I like the idea, and will put them in. Earth is starting to look quite populated!

That could take a while Marcel to add all those starports, but thanks!

One thing though, Crosslee is a really tiny place so the landing bays will (most likely) always be full just like Sirocco Station

That got me wondering how well the AI is going to be able to handle all those spaceports. I guess we'll see. As I said, it's just for fun, not intended to be part of the game... which is a game... which is just for fun...

Nice, really good idea! Could I ask a small favour and ask that you add both York and Sheffield in England. I'm from sheff but now live in York

Not that I'd expect either of those to actually have starports in the future.

I can assure you that in the year 3200 they will both have starports. Of course, in order to do this they will completely level the towns and put up a few tacky high-rises.

You may rest assured that your... obscure, and unsung hamlets have been demolished, only to emerge reborn, as the very splendid and worthwhile York and Sheffield spaceports, providing welcome refreshment, and sanitory relief, to every weary traveler on his way.[attachment=815:Britain01.jpg]
