I can definitely add some of those too, currently I have a pool of 7 questions and wanted to have a few more to have a nice collection of questions.

I understand the problem, but I think you are trying too hard. There are a wide variety of knowledges and experiences here, so it might be difficult to ask any one question that everyone could answer. To be fair, you would probably have to ask several questions, and allow a miss or two, which makes for a complex quiz.
I agree with a lot of what you're saying. Having to open another tab and Google for an answer is kinda silly really. Something much simpler would be nice. I could see the bots learning to do word math, but you could make those a little more verbose. You could even keep the Star Wars theme if you like:Example: "Eight jawas are salvaging a T-16. Three of them get picked off by sand people. How many jawas escape?"Something like that anyway :)

I removed some of the harder questions and replaced them with some simple math questions there is 7 questions total in the pool and they are randomly selected upon user registration.

Update 3/19:- Website has moved hosts and there has been a casualty of this move and this was the download area. It looks like it isn't salvageable at all. I will be trying to put it back together and with the help from any members we can get it back to where it was again.- Some of the benefits of moving the site to a new provider are: unlimited bandwidth, larger database limits, more file storage, backups and hopefully better speed for people.TO DO LIST:- Create a ftp file area for people to upload files to help with rebuilding of the download database- Get wiki linked into main page (might still keep it locked from editing for now)- Get gallery running on latest version (seems to be issues with Godaddy hosting I might need to resolve)- Create new videos page (old one wasn't cutting it)- Add country flag mod to site- Rebuild download area setup- Update links page to reflect wiki changes- Update about page to reflect changes to site

I don’t know if anyone else is having this problem but I am having a hard time getting into SSC, seem to be getting a general error message a lot or the pages just time out. It might just be my lousy broad band, but so far the only site it happening with is SSC. If it any help It stared happening over the weekend and it seems to be getting slower and slower.

Yep, same thing here, its like back in the early 90s with my rubbish 56k modem  I am sure Darkone is busy behind the scenes sorting things. I am sure it wont be long before all is back to normal. It does show you though how much we would miss this place if anything happened to it ;)

Working on it right now. I noticed and even more slow down when I made some edits that GoDaddy suggested to make everything php5 compliant. All of the memory values and upload values are increased and functionality and responsiveness seems to have gotten worse. I noticed some errors yesterday while loading posts that the database timed out a few times and I think that is the biggest issue mainly because the majority of the info on SSC is in a database.I am hoping they can solve my issues soon because it is frustrating enough that the move didn't go smoothly and to then have some responsive and database errors makes it worse. Especially since the db hasn't changed at all when switching hosts.

I removed the chat window from the forum view because for some reason it didn't like the switch to php5 settings. I will uninstall the mod and reinstall it fresh tonight when I get home.

Hmmm seems like the website is running well right now for me or least a lot faster. Maybe GoDaddy did adjust something and didn't tell me? Anyone else think the site is running better than the last few days?

One thing I did do was remove the mchat mod from the forum page. People have complained in the phpbb forums that this mod sucks up some memory and database cycles since it is constantly being watched for updates and those posts are stored in the DB.I will fully uninstall it tonight when I get home and see how everything is. And if that does seem to be the problem I will need to find another chat mod to play with.Still bothers me that there seems to be issues with the site when I enable the php5 settings on the site.

Did you have an idea on where you wanted this type of functionality to go? And is the intent to just have a random content area for people to post general comments or for an actual blog type functionality like a wordpress?

Hi Darkone. If you run ypur site off a linux server you should consider using varnish or nginx (reverse proxies) to offload all non session based traffic, this will free up allot of cpu-quota for pure php (logged in session browsing) since the reverse proxy will deliver cached from memory directly), and have almost no cpu usage.I'm just guessing you're getting cpu bound by your provider, pure php via apache is parsed/interpered on every page displayed consuming alot of cpu, but can easily be speed up 10x times by cacheing non cookie/session based traffic. Both are free to use, varnish is the easiest one to setup. Nginx take also do SSL, varnish cannot,http://www.varnish-cache.org/http://wiki.nginx.org/

It has been better the past two days least for me and a few others. Any better now for you? Why did I move... I moved the site because I reaching the threshold on database size and bandwidth. Now I have unlimited bandwidth and my DB size can be 1GB+ and my HD storage went up a bit. Was frustrating a bit yesterday when GoDaddy told me it was all me when I had the same code working on another host without issue. But we'll see what I can do the next few days.

I have a linux server but it is shared hosting. I will move to a dedicated server or least a virtual one once when SSC makes more $$. I can't install this type of software until I have a dedicated/virtual server.

Update on some of the things I have been working on.This week I was going to start work on a fresh install of phpbb3.08 without the SEO mod because I think that is the reason why I am running into these problems. I will setup a fully running board and port my database over and see how it responds compared to the existing install. This is only tests and will have nothing to do with the current setup and it will be left alone. There is something going on and I want to find it!I will let people know when it is ready so I can have a few folks login and test its speed and reliability.Sorry for the delays in getting all of these issues resolved, I am working on it.Update 3/29:TO DO LIST:- Create a ftp file area for people to upload files to help with rebuilding of the download database (Complete) - (Still need to work out some permission issues.- Get wiki linked into main page (Complete) - Might unlock user registration this weekend- Get gallery running on latest version (Complete)- Create new videos page (old one wasn't cutting it) - (In Progress) - Just trying to figure out how to make youtube's video window bigger because adjusting the height/width values isn't doing it.- Add country flag mod to site (Complete)- Rebuild download area setup (Complete)- Update links page to reflect wiki changes (Complete)- Update about page to reflect changes to site (Complete)

Hi DarkoneAn impressive amount of work done so far! :) But I've got an awful amount of slow down navigating the site at the moment. It was going great there for a while too. Guess you are still busy behind the scenes?
