Starforce on X2?

I remember hearing (or reading) something about the X series having the accursed copy protection.Does it still ruin cd drives, or do newer copies even have it anymore?Would it be okay to get it from Steam?

I never bought X2 at all but I know X3TC no longer has and DRM after patch 2.7 I believe.

Does X3 have a cockpit? 3rd person views kind of kill the immersion for me.

I had a look in the big box of crap and yes the original release X2 has starforce on it although I think it was stripped out of later releases of the game.No idea if the Steam version still has it.

AFAIK all version of X games have draconian DRM. However they also all have it removed after the game has been out a while, so just installing the latest patch will remove any requirements for that.I too remember that Starforce piece of shit.I lost 2 dvd drives to that pos. Thats when I stopped paying/playing for games with very draconian DRM on them... oops did I just say that?
