Hello,I'm a flight sim fanatic with a nice joystick rudder and throttle gear and was wondering if you could point me in the direction of a hyperrealistic in-cockpit combat sim game; ideally a sim which would simulate lots of systems with lots of shortcuts...does such a thing exists?imagine starting with a cold and dark cockpit in your space fighter, ready for launch.then click on the gpu, transfer power and turn on the apu, then engines, then generators online, meanwhile navigation computer on, life systems checks, meanwhile your space fighter is aligned with the launch pad by the ground crew. Then you spool up the remaining systems and get the radio authorizations by the space carrier control. Then you're ready for launch, fourth in the queue, third .... and then... off you go.Imagine then managing damages and power systems while in combat...and then finally returning to base, docking after authorization and shutting down systems...L

I don't know a space sim that is exactly so hyperrealistic but i can mention some wich are close at least:Starshatter:You can decide how realistic the space flight is. On maximum realism it is pretty close to how real space combat could be. Some call this game the Falcon 4.0 of space sims. You can fly capital ships too.I-War 1 and I-War 2:The fly system is pretty realistic. Controling the different subsystems of your ship is also crucial for survival. Universal Combat:It's part of the Battlecruiser series from Derek Smart. Usually i can't recommend a game from this creator. But if you are searching for a complex simulation of different space crafts with tons of subsystems, than maybe you will like this one. But the fly system isn't really realistic and the game is overall not really polished. It't for free so you can give it a try.Final Frontier and Elite 2( and the remakes FF3D and Pioneer)The fly system is newtonian and you have a procedural launch sequence. But it is not combat oriented and a sandbox style game. I'am sure others have some suggestions too. And if you can live without combat, than Orbiter is usually the most realistic space sim.

Hyperrealistic? Orbiter is about as hardcore as it gets.

Indeed Orbiter would fit the bill.Just needs some one to add guns to it.

I found orbiter too difficult..perhaps an extra layer of user friendly computer guruness suggesting and driving / correcting the spacecraft path would help... besides fighter sorties from a spacecarrier would probably require little interplanetary calculations since they would be based in the same inertia plane as the spacecarrier... and then we could always get away by using a FTL engine that lets you jump to wherever you want with the correct velocities relative to destination :-)L

I'm a bit surprised nobody mentionned Evochron mercenaries, i just bought it and it look awesome (i'll need lot of training ^^)

Obiter takes commitment. If you are truly interested you should start by spending a few days reading tutorials... yes thats right I said days.

Problem with Orbitor is that it’s a simulation not a game.Have you had a look at Artlav spaceways project http://www.spacesimcentral.com/free-indie-and-open-source-gaming-projects-f46/spaceway-project-t990-30.html Its based on Orbitor so if you have any suggestion maybe a post in there as he was looking for ideas.

This "Hyper realistic combat space simulator" is what I was looking for too, but I guess such thing doesn't exist... yet.Turning on electric power, fuel, sec. engine, life support systems, radar and radio link, weapons, counter-measures, etc., on a space craft would be awesome.

But yeah, the learning curve would be too great for most people. And that's what keeps companies from devenloping such games, it wouldn't sell enough.I mean, someone with enough will power (and time) could work in a game like that, but the biggest problem is where to begin.

Well there is really no reason why you could not have both, an easy fully automatic control set up and a hardcore fully manual set up within a space sim with varying degrees in between. Flight and Racing sims have been doing just that for years. The real trick is to get the big dev companies interested in the space sim genre again and to make the games we really want.
