IRC for people without IRC

This is an experiment. If it gets abused, or I get complaints, it's going to quietly disappear.http://ppcis.org/pioneer/chat/At this URL is a web based IRC client. It connects to the IRC server so you don't have to. All you need is a web browser. So, if you want to see what goes on at the heart of Pioneer development, pop in and say hello. We're multi-time-zonal, so there's bound to be somebody around and awake, probably busy making Pioneer even better. Most of Pioneer's development process involves IRC and GitHub; now, hopefully, barriers to access have been lifted and everybody who want to, can contribute.

Works well Brianetta, and its easy to use for non-IRC users like me.Do you happen to know requirements to get this to run on a server? Wondering if I could put something like this in place on SSC since there has been some interest in the past. Do you happen to have a website where this software is located so I can do so testing to see if this could be compatible with my hosting?Oh, I added a link to this IRC channel to the Pioneer forum description.Thx

Thanks for the support DarkOne.The software is CGI::IRC, available here: http://cgiirc.org/Its written in Perl, and its requirements seem fairly mundane. Brianetta could speak in more detail about it.

IRC doesn't have a concept of history. You start with a blank screen. There was no conversation happening at the time you turned up. Leave the window open for a few hours and see how you go.Or, say hi :)

you can loose a lot of time with such things...yesterday i reviewed all standard models of FFED3D in the same time (over night), stripped unused animation data and recompressed them.at least some success for me ;)

Just a tongue-in-cheek reference to the whole conspiracy theory. Don't mind me :)

Thanks, DarkOne. Make sure that your hosting policy includes permission to access IRC. Also, every user who connects using this script uses one web server process (in my case, Apache) and one Perl process, so its requirements can get heavy. This is the web site. You can fork a clone at Github, too: git://github.com/dgl/cgiirc.git
