Looking for a Game

Hi all,New member here. This place is great! I love space games of all varieties - I can't believe I never ran across this site before...I found it when I was using my google-fu to look for a new (to me) space exploration-focused game. But when I clicked the link for this site I saw names of games I've never even HEARD of before. Frankly, it's a little overwhelming! So I thought I would ask the experts (hopefully this isn't the annoying thing that all the n00bs do...).I would love to play some modern equivalent or spiritual successor to Starflight/Star Control 2 if there is something out there that (more or less) fits that description. Those were great games where you really felt like you were venturing out into the unknown. Is there a game that has:1. exploration in a relatively free form, open galaxy/universe/sector kind of way2. multiple options for earning money/credits (i.e. trading, fighting, mining, etc.)3. interesting factions or alien civilizations to meet, interact with, trade with, join and/or blow to smithereens4. the ability to upgrade my ship and/or buy new ships5. a decent story (though possibly optional)6. I prefer realistic physics models for space flight - thrust and drift/Newtonian physics, that sort of thingI realize that there is probably no single game that has all the things I would personally like. But one that comes close would be awesome - and if anyone knows what it is I'm sure it will be on this forum.Games I have already played (and loved!) in the exploration/trading category:Starflight 1/2Star Control 2Wing Commander: PrivateerFreelancerX: Beyond the Frontier (not my favorite game of all time)I would really appreciate any tips on games I should check out (old or new) and look forward to being a part of this community. Thanks!

Since you mentioned Starflight 1/2 and Star Control 2, I thought you might be interested in these for starters

Hello You can try Evochron series ... newest one is Evochron Mercenary, there is 1 hour playtime free demo, but it is game more on space flight and combat, but you can trade, mine, get bounty and more ways how to make money. There is also some storyline. I bought Evochron Legends game before Mercenary and I have found that combat is too hard, mostly because of newtonian flight model, but I maybe give a another try to this great game..You gan get demo here: http://www.starwraith.com/evochronmercenary/index.htmAnyway ... don't you know guys what is with Evochron forum? I cannot get there for long time...

Dangerous would nearly fits the bill.It has Newtonian flight model but it has to earned in the game before you can use itIts actually an Ipod game with a PC/Mac version as well so no fancy graphics Have a look at the thread http://www.spacesimcentral.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=2356 any questions just ask as the deves will answer them.

Don't bother with Shores of Hazron - at best a pre-alpha game that is terrible in all respects.
no one mentioned shores of hazeron in this thread.i don't know why you're so butthurt about that game, but its not cool to keep ragging on an indie game that the one developer wants very much to make.
