I registerred here because this seems like a great site, the community looks good having skimmed a few posts!Recently I've been poking around trying out a few space sims to try to find a game I'd like to sit down and play for a while.I've been finding tons of great games and mods for other games, but my beginning questions for this community is; what's your favorite? is there a 'most popular' space sim? And, is there a good free-form multiplayer (MMO or otherwise) space sim?Things I like about me and space sims:I really like free-form or sandbox games and exploration, along with the ability to pilot ships that aren't strictly fighters. I like joystick gameplay but mice are cool too.I'm not really a hardcore dev or anything but I'm sort of "freelancing" to a group of students working on an indie game called Fury Void. Yes, we have no information about ourselves. I'm an artist and I (should be) work(ing) on parts for ships. It's going to be 3d graphics in a top-down 2D environment, something about lots of environment destructabillity and infinite degredation/complexity.If there's an interesting enough project looking for people and they happen to see this, I have like no jobs for Fury Void and can model decently and probably texture (never really practiced with ships and the like and it's not one of my strong points... yet) but I'll probably require a small amount of learnage. I'd like the practice though, and space is cool and stuff.Looking forward to meeting you guys and maybe even playing with a few of you!

Greetings, Lettucent... welcome. I'll leave it to the experts (of which there are plenty here) to answer your questions. No use me trying - I'm a monogamiac, and only have time for Oolite (a fine space-game, which has a sub-forum here)!

Welcome Lettucent. <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//preved.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':preved:' />You have come to the right place. For singleplayer space sims you could try the X series or Galaxy on Fire 2, both are not restricted to fighting but also offer exploration and trading. however, there are worlds between those two games regarding the complexity of gameplay.for multiplayer there is always freelancer and maybe eve online.

Thanks guys, I think I've settled on the X series, particularly X3, I'm playing Albion Prelude but I'm not sure if I'll be missing out on something from Terran Conflict. I do wish there was an actual cockpit to see while I'm in my ship. Oh well, I'm looking forward to Star Citizen as it seems to promise the culmination of all space sims. As for multiplayer I'll probably stick to discovery freelancer since they're pretty active.Salvation Prophecy is fun but not quite complex or customizable enough to hold me. Galaxy on Fire 2 is on my next to play, but I can tell it used to be an iPod app (I hate the bar blobs).

Welcome to SSC Lettucent.I have high hopes for Star Citizen, since Infinity: The Quest for Earth is taking an infinity amount of time to get here. I want to feel the real trials of being a space faring pilot in a non forgiving universe. I want the universe to be affected by our actions in it. There hasn't been really any games to take advantage of this aspect and I hope there will be. I have yet to really sit down with Evochron Mercenary yet but at first glance it will give a player quite a few great things most space games should have. There is a upcoming patch that is coming for it that should help it out and think its coming before the new year.Well any way, always nice to get some new feedback and points of interests on games to spur the conversations. If you come across any games of mods please do post them.See ya in the forums.
