key remapping?

How in the world do you do this? Is it possible? I absolutely hate the default key layout, and it makes the game unplayable for me on my laptop. (No numpad). Really really wanna play this game but looks like it is going to hinge on whether I can remap or not. I have tried editing jjffe.cfg but that does nothing. Thanks for any help in advance!
