I don't think their is for the original game but their is the fan remake of Privateer at http://privateer.sourceforge.net/ and Wing commander saga http://www.wcsaga.com/ which I don't think is a remake of the original just set in the same universe.

The graphics ARE archaic... still doesn't stop them from being great games! If you are interested, there is a game made in the Freespace 2 engine called Wing Commander Saga www.wcsaga.com It's pretty amazing how much people can still manage to pull out of the old Freespace engine, it looks fairly good. It's been a long time since I played it, in interest of full disclosure I don't think it was quite done when I did. From what I remember it was nice but didn't blow me away. Probably won't hold a candle to Privateer, but it may be comparable to WC 1 through 3 (with far better graphics of course).

Well, 9 years ago one guy - Ed Benowitz - has created a game called "Flight Commander". It had to be a WC 1 remake with better graphics. Using this game other guy - Kevin Caccamo - has created WC 1 remake. Check this: http://flightcommander.solsector.net/ and this: http://www.ciinet.org/kevin/wc1remake/

You should be able to still play these games on your current system using DosBox if it doesn't run natively. GOG deals with a lot of classics and the graphics are not going to be bleeding edge, you are playing these games for the experience and most time the gameplay is better than today's games because they had to be because the gfx were not as they are today. I remember when those games came out and buying them in the store, so just like a few others here it makes ya feel a tad old when games you played celebrate 20-30+ yr anniversaries
