Small transport

Here's a small transport ship I managed to dig up from my old models backup folder. Kind of like a van or something, around 14 meter long. Not really intended for atmospheric flight, despite her aerodynamic aesthetics.Something like a of a sibling of that Small courier of mine. Does she fits in the game?

I think she fits. :nyam: I also think a shape like that should be able to land in an atmosphere. I like your courier too. Your style reminds me more of Mobius than anime. Looking at the side windows in the courier makes me wonder if it requires a crew, or there's room for passengers, like a small business jet.

Yeah definitely, we welcome a wide range of ships. Models are contributed to Pioneer under the "Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License" (original here), but you can do mods under whatever scheme you like :) I personally think that a set of ships with the style you've done those under would be a really nice addition to Pioneer, and if you don't want to contribute them under the CC-BY-SA-3.0 licence then they'd still make for an excellent mod! Andy

I am not sure why, but your Transport Ship kind of reminds me of the hive ships from the original Homeworld. They were cool and so is this! :girlcrazy:

I don't mind creative commons at all. That was my default intention anyway.I would really like to make a line of ships, like if they are from the same manufacturer (but it have to wait for a while, I can spare only a few hours here and there until I finish my semester and school year. That won't stop me doodling during travel though...Any recommendations, what class of ship is needed? A shuttle and a non atmospheric ferry is a must I think, also some truck and train equivalent too (also usintg the form of those). Or something like a recreation vehicle. My favorite thing is something along the flying boat line of thought, somewhere between the catalina arcraft, those wonderful soviet ekranoplans, and the Bebop from Cowboy Bebop of course. I already have one ship like that, I hope I can find her on my old hdd, and check if she's good for the game's purpose.Anyway, look back at my picasa album, I've posted a page of ship doodles I made recently.Shame on me, but I never made that far in homeworld to encounter that ship.

This teapot is now called Mola Mola, and she's ready to fly by the way: And it uses the pattern system, so expect some over the top color schemes.I've already posted it to the dev forum, but if you want to give her an early spin, here's the mod file:https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/456051/pioneer/molamola.zip It's not too powerful, and has 80t cargo space and decent deltaV. Just make sure you post feedback if you notice anything off. It needs some texture polish, but I wanted to upload it before I leave home for a while.

I've made some updates to the above file. Decals and proper spec and shininess.

I took it mining and scooping, worked great! Took a while to refuel the Engines with mined water but it was doable and then it skimmed Neptune like a champ and filled the hold.It could use a rear weapon mount or some missile hardpoints, with a mining cannon installed it can't carry any other weapons.

I like the idea of a specialized mining ship built around the same base chassis.I haven't really tried mining yet, but I gather it works like blasting a small planet with a mining laser and then scoop the minerals "jettisoned" by it.So, a similar back side with same engine placement, different heat sink flaps, and a front side with a more elevated cockpit and a big scoop thingy on the front. Less thrust and deltaV, more manueverable, and a bit more room. Maybe no atmo capability do imply a more specialized nature. What do you think?

I'd keep the Atmo capability and wouldn't scale the thrust down too much, though less delta-V would be no problem. There is already the DS Miner as a dedicated mining craft, this ship feels more like a generalist to me. Something more along the lines of an old multipurpose hull that can do it all, even if it isn't as good at any single role as more modern specialized craft. I'd actually put it forward as an ideal starting ship.

Yeah, I wan't to do a general starting ship too, but I'm note sure about it's form yet. I was thinking about something that's not a too good ship at anything, as you said, but it's quite lovable. I'm thinking about something very vaguely based on the Trabant's shape and feel. It was a very bad car, but could be practically repaired with kitchen appliances, and had quite a character, and has very lot nostalgic value today. A friend of mine told me that a random guy cleaned their trabant. Hi key worked on their car, and he only realized he cleaned somebody else's car when my friends returned and asked what he was doing. :DSo a ship that can tell stories. And it's weak enough to keep the player working for his/her money.
