Your thoughts on the Planetary Annihilation Alpha

Hey all, I got my hands on the PA Alpha past friday. Since then I've played several sessions of it. I must say the game looks to me like an upgraded version of Supcom in terms of gameplay, graphics (more realistic does not always mean nicer, good that the PA devs got that one) and other areas. I think that's a good thing. Supcom had many things right, and it seems the PA devs are trying to do the things supcom did right and improve the bad areas, added with an extra layer of awesome sauce. As the Alpha stands now, I am pretty confident it will become a good game eventually. Many of my friends who have the Alpha complain a lot about it being buggy as hell. Well, that's why it isn't a beta. People just got spoiled by Minecraft Alpha (which in my eyes is more a beta than an alpha, seeing how it was technically sticking together. Alpha was just a marketing trick to lower the expectations). Anyways, what are your thoughts on it?

I didn't get in on that kickstarter and should have :( As long as they can complete what they promised in the kickstarter I think it will be a nice game to own. Can you play online with others yet? How is the gameplay and do the players host the game or is it hosted on the servers?

You can play online with others yet. It is still buggy but already quite playable too. Currently the devs host the servers (players pick to set up a match themselves though), but they want the players to host the servers. It is just to gather statistics on how the server software handles and performs that the devs host it for now. At the latest the beta should allow players to host it on their computers.
