Hey everyone, I'm CrossDressiNate, most people call me Cross or Nate. as a kid I used to play space combat games like X Wing/Tie Fighter, Mechwarrior, freelancer, wing commander and freespace, then life went on. I'm starting to get back into space combat games as well as get into space sim's and 4x games. X3 has been pretty interesting, but difficult to get into. I don't know where to start for 4X games except for Civilization IV, but I'm tired of the poor balancing. What do you guys recommend for a 4x newb? I have Star Ruler, GalCiv I, Masters of Magic, Masters of Orion 1+2, Civ III, Call to Power II,Alpha Centauri and I guess Empire At War has some 4x aspects. I'm also a big Star wars, star trek, firefly and battlestar galactica fan.

Welcome to the forum Nate Not a player of 4x game myself so I can't suggest anything although it looks like you have most of the best ones in you list.

Welcome to SSC Nate. Unfortunately all the 4x games I played (and still remember) are already in your list so I cannot help you with new titles :(

Sorry for the late reply. But thanks for welcoming me to SSC! Out of all the games I listed, which one is the most newb friendly space 4x game. Civilization IV is pretty easy to learn, but it isn't Space. I've heard Alpha Centauri is really good, but first look at it made it seem too complicated for a 4X newbie like me. I've heard Masters of Orion are great, but I'm having problems with the GOG version. Endless Space looks really, really cool. But is it Newb Friendly?

I haven't played it personally but it ranks well enough on Steam and all the DLC I think so far has been free. Here is a nice review to give ya some gameplay perspective
