Differences with Scout +

Post by revporl »

Hi I'm enjoying both Pioneer and Paragon (pretty but less stable). What is this Scout + I keep hearing about, what are the gameplay and graphics differences from regular Pioneer? Thanks, Paul

@revporl Welcome Paul! This is a question I ask myself also. :D Basically, Scout is a personal project with my vision of the game, built on the latest version of Pioneer engine, and I share in SpaceSimCentral with a small group of friends, I invite you to participate. :preved: My English language limitations, detailing prevent me quickly what the differences are. Although the whole evolution of Scout are here.  game mod: Pioneer Scout + I propose something to you; Hopefully one player who has proven, tell us here what are the differences he likes, and dislikes. Knowing it would help me improve Scout+. :pioneer:

I could go into a lengthy explanation of the differences but really the best way to find out is to try it yourself, so hit that link in walterar's signature and give it a go. I love it, maybe you will too! And welcome to the SSC! :queen: Also you might want to try Genesia too..... :girlcrazy:

Ok, I've had a very quick look and it looks great, it seems a lot busier, there are more missions at each station. The early progress seems a lot quicker as the missions pay much more and it's a lot more violent. The police are far more on top than in Pioneer. It looks like fun, like Pioneer on speed! There should be a section for Paragon too, but I can't see one. That's a kind of pretty, commercial form of Pioneer I think. I like that too, just drifting about looking at stuff. I'll have a look at Genesia too Geraldine, at this rate I'll end up with four installs of Pioneer on the PC! (counting Paragon)

there are more missions at each stationFunny you should mention that, since I've been thinking about reducing the average number of BBS adverts in pioneer. With more different mission types added to pioneer over time, the other existing missions haven't been reduced proportionally, meaning the BBS is often flooded with too many missions to choose from. Some players even request some "filter feature" to find specific missions to their taste, because its such a flood.I rather don't like that at all. It's easy to see the pattern of each mission flavor, like "ok here are X delivery missions, Y taxi missions, Z assassination missions, Q cargo delivery missions...", and too many to choose from. I prefer if the players need to see many bulletin boards before they get the feeling of having discovered all missions types there are in pioneer.I'm thinking 0-[a few] missions of each type in a "normal" station. At least that's on my to-do list.Think about original Elite/Elite Plus which had, if I'm not mistaken, 8 special missions, but you had to play like hell to get to each one. If those 8 were offered right up front at the start of the game, then you get fun at the beginning but then the rest of the game play is less event full, and no surprises or rewards for the really devoted player. EDIT: This is in no way any critique on Scout+, I'm only talking about Pioneer here, and pitching the direction I want to take it in, and which, I guess, would further distinguish pioneer from scout+.
