I didn't even know 'I am not a Monster' existed until I saw that they were coming out with a single player (First Contact) mode for this multiplayer game.

From what I have read, it would seem you have to own the original game as this is just a mode which is being added to the game, as it seems the multiplayer game has not being very successful.
