Hey everyone - I've been looking for, and this may sound dry, okay it does sound dry, but what I've been looking for lately is a galactic empire or space civilization game which is about building up a government and the infrastructure for a civilization and is full of diplomacy and united nations stuff, but that keeps the war and micromanagement to a minimum. I know this probably sounds bizarre. My favorite games are Civ II and Alpha Centauri. Alpha Centauri is a classic. I'm currently trying Gal Civ II. I can't download MOO2 as my workplace doesn't allow it, so I'm playing MOO1. Anyone know of a game like this? Thanks, Stephanie =-)

Yeah just a little bizarre.

I can't really think of any. Most have combat as a major feature. When I search for games I use http://www.mobygames.com You might try searching there If you haven't already.I noticed MOO1 and M002 are available on http://www.gog.com Did you try downloading there? If they block the site you might be able to use a proxy to access it. Or I suggest going to an internet cafe or home pc, download it and burn it to a disk.Hope you find what you're looking for

Hi StephanieWelcome to the SSC

Yes it can be difficult finding an empire building game without all the combat. The only thing I could suggest is to play Gal Civ 2 and try to follow a peaceful road to expand your empire. As for other examples; there is Space Empires 4 and 5 which are available on Steam, but they also have combat too. It really comes down to how you play the game. For infrastructure building, there is Imperium Galactica II: Alliances. It's quite an old game now, but you might like it. It still has combat though. Here is a link http://www.mobygames.com/game/imperium-galactica-ii-alliances. Saying all that though, many consider MOO2 to be the best game of it's type ever made to date. There is a MOO3, but many followers of the genre prefer the second game in the series, so maybe you would be better sticking with that.

I too seek empire building games without a lot of combat Stephanie,so I can fully empathize with how difficult they are to find.Does it have to be in space(sci-fi), or are City Builder games acceptable as well?Going ahead and listing those space games I've found so far that sort of fits the criteria;Alpha CentauriAscendancyBirth of the FederationCivilization I-IV (IV is a favorite)Galactic Civilizations I&IIImperium Galactica II: AlliancesMaster of Orion II & III (III is my one of my favorites)Space Empires IV&V (Also favorites, IV a bit more so)StarKnights (A relatively unknown little indie gem)These games all have some form of combat in them, but mostly it all depends on how you play. The great thing about 4x games, is that you don't have to win by conquest. ,)

Very true Farcodev, it always been easier and less challenging to destroy rather than create. :)Also found another game that might be closer to what you may like, Light of Altair. Found a copy on Amazon. Or you could get it here via Impluse bundled with Armada 2526, http://www.impulsedriven.com/products/ESD-IMP-W591
