You have to enjoy this...

Talk about everything else that may happen in life that doesn't happen inside the real world of Space Gaming... is there really anything outside of Space sim/Combat Gaming?

You have to enjoy this...

Spare of the moment post :)Thought you might want to have a listen to 'da man', Joe Satriani on the guitar. I have been a huge fan for 20 years and he has still got it after all these years. And for those that don't know he taught Steve Via and Kirk Hammett (Metallica) how to play, so he is like Yoda :). This guy is truly the best, so here is a few songs.Enjoy!

I have never played a instrument before but if I could it would be the guitar. It would be just an amazing feat to play a Joe Satriani song :)

You would hate the constant rainfall Bullwinkle  You know something else Bullwinkle, I just realised (without thinking) that the 3 artists I posted all come from the UK. So I had another thought, since we have members on this forum from around the world, why not give us a taste of what sounds are great in your part of the world?

I have a feeling that everyone hates the constant rainfall, Geraldine. Brits have been trying to get out of the UK, to go pretty much anywhere else, as long as ships have sailed the seas. :)

Oooh, that's a great idea! You mean like The Yardbirds, for example? No, wait... they're from the UK, too.Rolling Stones?Beatles?(sigh)... it seems that all of the great artists are from the UK.Oh, I've got it... how about that girl, with the wonderful voice, who sang "For Your Eyes Only"? *heavy sigh*Aside from the UK classics, of course, one of my all-time-favorite bands really did come from the US... The Motels. I'm not sure why I liked them so much... I think I was mesmerized by the sound of Martha Davis' voice...

Now you know why Britain used to have the largest fleet in human history! Forget about empire building, it was all really about just getting a nice tan 8-) We can't afford all that now so everyone just paints themselves with fake tan instead, waterproof of course......... The Motels! I have not herd them in ages! Nice one :) Shenna Easton is from Scotland Bullwinkle! But a nice Bond tune and no mistake, another great Bond number was from Carly Simon. They don't (like so many things these days) make em like that anymore.

Yes, that explains a lot of things. :)And, of course, I was teasing about Sheena Easton... she is, obviously, a star from sunny Scotland. I also considered Shirley Bassey, who did more Bond themes than anyone, but she's Welsh (sigh)... you see? All of the great performers are from the UK! ;) Well, OK, maybe not all of them. But a lot!Carly Simon... yeah, she is American, all right. For some reason, her voice comes to mind when I think about Freelancer and begin to miss Chris Roberts and Digital Anvil and their perfect touch at Space Sims.

I know this is an old thread, but I remembered that comment and linked it with some old news that I just heard.Apparently you were not kidding about the rain, Geraldine! I just learned that the rain killed 25 people and injured 517 others in 1902 in Glasgow: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibrox_disaster#First_Ibrox_disaster

Thought I would give this old thread a re-visit. Two things for your interest. The first one I found out about on Amibay, thanks to Amibay members ptp170 and The Corfiot for the info. Go to 'Run' in your Start Menu and type:telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl If it doesn't work in Windows 7 try this, Go to Control Panel, Programs & Features, Turn Windows Features on/off and tick the box for Telnet clientSecondly, I found this lovely song by Porcupine Tree on You Tube. Very "Floydian" if you get my meaning, also note the lead guitar 8-)

Wow, I almost skipped the telnet trick and I am glad that I did not. Somebody put an absurd amount of time and energy into creating that! Thumbs up, Geraldine.Yes, the Porcupine Tree clip sounds a lot like Pink Floyd. And, yet, at the same time... it just doesn't have the je ne sais quoi that made me want to listen to Dark Side of the Moon, with headphones, for hours, back in my university days. What makes one artist "pleasant" while another is "life-changing-ly awesome"?

The answer is quite simple Bullwinkle, pure talent. Dave Gilmore and the crew were willing to experiment with music in the late 60s, using new equipment and new methods. If you get the chance (if you haven't already), check out Echoes Live from Pomeii to see some of the things they used to create their music, even dogs! Heck, here is a link to get you started ;) Still, Porcupine Tree are doing very well for such a (relatively) young band. They must be Floyd fans :) Also, the lead guitar that they used had an LCD screen (with a Wii controller) built in linked to a PC to manage the images it generates. If you look closely you can see the screen image change as he plays. Dave Gilmore would probably melt it  And yes the telnet feature will be great once they finish it. I think they will do a colour version too in the future! :o
