Yes, and now i have added a tool to decide which armor and munition to use on your ship: the "Armor Simulator" screen to see the effects with different type of armor and munitions.

W00t, just checked your newest dev blog entries and this game sounds more and more awesome with every new update: 26/02/2014 New version released:-Sandbox mode-Warp Engines-Trading-Orbital Path and: 23/03/2014Added Warp Disruptors:Consume some power but prevents all nearby ships from using warp engines. They are used to enforce a battle.Added Warp Sensors:Detect ships that are traveling using warp engines. The detection range depends from the mass and the speed of the target. --- This is easily one of the most promising indie projects I've ever come across. I really need to try this out eventually!

No. Right now it is only iron-man style

Is there any plans for a save feature? Playing in sandbox mode seems almost pointless without it. I like the game, and seems it would be fun to get into trading and such, but with no saving it seems an exercise in futility.

There will be for sure. Sandbox gameplay is a recent addition and my efforts has gone towards making it fun first.
