Hi

Post by captnrob »

Hi. New to this forum but not to space sims. Several years ago I built my own custom cockpit for playing sims. I used it for Star wars X-Wing Alliance, and Battlecruiser. I never actually got it finished with all the external switches and displays. Right now I'm playing DarkStar One but not in the cockpit (long story - I ended up cannibalizing the cockpit so it no longer is in one piece). I also have X3: Gold but haven't even taken it out of the box yet. My DREAM sim is one that includes all the best gameplay from X3, DS1, and other great space sims but also allows muti-monitor displays (as in three monitors giving a panoramic view but with the HUD and Game data only displayed on the center screen. And also "dockable" instruments that can be moved to a 4th monitor like radar, shield status, etc). Another thing on my "wish list" is a programming API so I can access in-game data to run my analog instruments (like having an LED display the missile type I have selected for example) if anyone knows of any GOOD Sims that provide the above I'd LOVE to hear about it.Rob

Hi Capt RobWelcome to the SSC. :) I can't recall if any space sims have the facility to use multi monitors, perhaps someone on the forum could point you in the right direction. The only flight sim I can think of is Micro$oft Flight Simulator. I think that can use multiple monitors, certainly it has dockable instrument screens.

Yeah thanks. Most home sim cockpit builders use MS Flight Sim or XPlane, but I find those BORING. I want to be flying around out in space shooting things up :D My dream Space Sim is one that combines the customizability of MSFS with a good Space Action/adventure sim like X3, etc.

You ought to post that idea on the Frontier Forum Captnrob, you never know! Frontier Developments has always said that it watches it's forum carefully to see what ideas the community can come up with as possible features in a future Elite IV release. Here is a link http://forums.frontier.co.uk/index.php

Hey CaptnrobWelcome to SSC and have fun in the forums and tell a friend ;)On your video question about games... hmmm if I had a sweet 3 monitor setup I would be able to help a bit on this. But the key is what you asked for having the HUD only on the center screen. I believe Evochron Legends and soon to come out Mercenaries has this functionalty. I know it hasn't quite caught on yet because there isn't that many people utilizing the 3 monitor setups. I have been wating to put together a three monitor setup but it would take up too much room and soon as I do it the wife would get jealious of the 3x 24" screens and I would have to buy her one too :) You have any pics of your cockpit that you built Captnrob?
