Empire building elements

A thread for anything at any point in time where empire building elements start being added to the game for now a ideas and suggestions features thread i guess. ( dont flame me ) just for discussion and ideas bouncing

I guess first question to ask is, are we only having human empires? I'd say yes. It side steps a lot of issues to do with technology, territory etc, unless we made the aliens approximately equal to our own tech...That doesn't mean there can't be extinct alien empires though :) I'm thinking of things like clusters worlds that were terraformed and/or have alien cities, space stations etc. Discovery bonuses could be paid for reporting them, or pirates could be using them as bases since they'd probably operate beyond the borders of inhabited space.

Oh and of course, although this is currently... "a lot like" a certain space game on the Amiga, it might be better to have multiple empires/human-civilisations rather than just Earth VS Imperial :D
